Making Brentwood More Beautiful Day Volunteers create a beautiful entrance garden at Brentwood Road near Capital Boulevard in Raleigh, North Carolina Copyright 2011 All Rights Reserved 1

2 A group of neighbors in the Brentwood neighborhood of Raleigh, North Carolina , decided they wanted to improve the gardens surrounding the entrance signs in their subdivision. Neighbors generously donated funds, and the Brentwood Neighborhood Association was able to obtain a matching funds grant from the City of Raleigh. On June 11, 2011, they held a Make Brentwood More Beautiful day to create their first outstanding garden.

7 Giant poison ivy vines grew up a tree!

8 The volunteers had their work cut out for them.

9 Before the end of the day, they would cut, snip, saw, pull, dig, till, weed wack , add compost, bone meal, fertilizer, and arrange and rearrange plants in order to turn this ugly space into a GORGEOUS GARDEN for the community to enjoy.

10 Volunteers donated their time, muscles, stamina, ideas, energy, cooler, drinks, ice, pizza, tiller, trucks, trailers, tools, and hearts to the project.

11 Each and every volunteer was sorely needed (and appreciated) and together made this little piece of Brentwood a thing of beauty.

48 People driving by didn’t know what we were doing. One thought we were selling plants and stopped to buy some, and another person wanted to know how much we were asking for our weed eater (!).
