Casual Carly Left: Okay Girlfriend, there’s a time and place for this type of beach wear and an interview is not it (true story). Right: If you’re determined to arrive in a business casual look (always risky) at least wear real shoes and keep them on your feet. :

Sexy Suzy Left: Girlfriend the workplace sexpot thankfully is an endangered species in the western world. Well, depending on where she works. Right: Feminine appeal doesn’t have to look sleazy. This is office work wear with a touch of femininity. :

Sloppy Sally :

Sloppy Sally Left: The sloth is indigenous to many western cultures but this breed seems to be less common in the work force than Sexy Suzy. That’s a good thing. I think. Right: A nice business casual look that certainly is acceptable in most offices on casual Fridays. If yours is a more corporate environment then you’re outta luck Girlfriend. But at least you’ve seen an attractively comfortable look.

Nancy Neutral :

Nancy Neutral Left: Girlfriend, she’s that woman who blends into the furniture so beautifully you could go to sit down in an empty swivel chair and accidentally sit on her. Right: All of the colours in this outfit are neutrals but they aren’t blah neutrals. The look is office appropriate and very flattering to most figures. Much better.

Goth Girl Left: This breed is generally nocturnal but in order to pay the rent she is frequently forced into the light of day at which time her eye makeup melts and she bumps into people a lot. Right: Here is a youthful, cute alternative. And she still retains her uniqueness. :

Frightening Franny :

Frightening Franny Left: Remember that frightful Flash Dance look? The tangled, crazy hair, shirtdress and the signature leggings (just in case a dance floor broke out). Girlfriend, how old would you say she is? 35? 40? Right: Here is a classy, designer alternative that will also turn heads but for the right reasons. It’s bright and not 1980’s. Phew.

Office No-No’s A plethora of examples about being covered up at work...for men and women! :

Office No-No’s A plethora of examples about being covered up at work...for men and women! Polished Preposterous

Analysis of a Terrifying Work Suit Scroll down in the article to find Light Blue Suit :

Analysis of a Terrifying Work Suit Scroll down in the article to find Light Blue Suit That 70’s Look Pastel blue polyester ill-fitting suit. No one looks good in pastel blue polyester. Over-sized men’s shirt with huge lapels. Doesn’t she earn enough money to buy her own shirts? Box-cut jacket with loop button holes halfway down the jacket. I don’t even know what to say here. Sorrowfully seamed slacks in “ice cream cone” shape – wide, at the top and skinny at the ankles. Guaranteed to add pounds to your hips and behind. Chunk heel square shoes; loafer style even. Must be why she’s grimacing. CLICK

Slide 10:

Analysis of a Great Work Suit Dark, pin-striped ladies’ blouse with narrow lapels Narrow, fitted ladies’ jacket in a dark navy Low-heeled, dark shoes barely noticeable beneath pants that are a decent length Chic conservative hairstyle Dark leather attache case presents a profesional panache CLICK

Polished Work Make-Up :

Polished Work Make-Up Girlfriend, neutral and polished is always the safest way to look for work. It’s pretty and definitely office appropriate.

Make-up I Suggest is Not for Work :

Make-up I Suggest is Not for Work Unless you star in La Cages Aux Folles. Then I owe you a big apology.

Slide 13:

An Adventure in Faking Appropriate Work Style You know that expression fake it until you make it? It’s baloney. I don’t know one person who has ever earned respect or gotten ahead at work when she was way in over her head. However one thing I will say about image is if you are of a mind to fake it until you make it (whatever that means) sharp-looking work clothes and great work hair ought to carry you along until you make your first big blunder. And then everyone knows that you are clueless at which point in time they can gasp “but how can that be when she is such a great dresser!” So there is a lot to gain by dressing as if you mean it and not dressing as if you don’t know what the heck you’re doing but wish you did.

Work Attire and Team Player Attitude :

Work Attire and Team Player Attitude Work wear is a prison uniform. Wow. Here is how NOT to act or dress in a job interview. And here is some reasonable advice about what to wear in terms of business casual.

Girlfriend :

Girlfriend You’ve got style and taste. Take a digital picture of yourself and download it into the space on the left. That’s what a stylin’ office woman looks like. You go girl! Add lovely you here.
