Slide 2: Nowadays, our country, Spain, is a multicultural country where many foreign people live. In our school, we can see a lot of schoolmates who have come from other countries and to help them so that they don’t feel discriminated against, we can do a lot of things. Although at first we think they are “special”, strange..., when we know them, we realize that they are very interesting and fantastic people. And with them, we can learn a lot, just like them. If we talk to these people, we will know them better and we will find out why they have come, if they want to come…, so, come and meet these people! Our school is a combination of different cultures, languages, and people from the five continents. : Our school is a combination of different cultures, languages, and people from the five continents. AMERICA AFRICA EUROPE ASIA OCEANIA In order to know more things about immigrants, I talked to them during the break and I asked them about their experience, why did they come to Spain?, when did they come?… : In order to know more things about immigrants, I talked to them during the break and I asked them about their experience, why did they come to Spain?, when did they come?… Hi, my name is Matheus, I’m 13 years old and I’m from Brazil. I came to Spain a year ago because my mum was here, and my brothers and I wanted to stay with her. I’d like to come back to see my family, but I prefer to live in Spain. In our school, teachers help us in order to learn the language. To improve the integration, I think that we can do activities where each person brings typical food from his country, for example. Hello, my name is Adrian, I’m 12 years old and I’m from Romania. I came to Spain in 2003 because my father was working here. I think that life is better here, but I don’ t know very well, there I have my family… Yes, it’s true, our teachers help us when we don’ t understand something… Hello, I’m Jessica, I’m 15 years old and I was born in England. I have been living in Spain for four years. I came to Spain because it’ s cheap to live here and it’ s a better quality of life. I don’t want to come back because here I have more freedom. In Licinio, a lot of teachers help explain things slower and easier to understand, they take foreign kids to Spanish classes… INTERVIEWS: Slide 5: Hi, our names are Yassine and Ayoub and we are 16 and 14 years old. We came to Spain three years ago, after our mum died. We want to come to study. In the future we want to come back to work there. Yes, in our school, teachers help us, for example, they translate the letters for our parents, they arrange meetings with them… To improve the integration, we think that it must have the subject of religion from each country, for example. Hello, my name is Courtney and I am 15 years old. I was born in London but when I was three years old I came to Spain because my mother prefers Spain to England. I don’ t like to come back to England because I like Spain better and here there is more freedom than in England. Yes, I think that teachers try to have a lot of patience with us. HI! I’m Patrick and I’m thirteen years old. I’m from Nigeria and I left it in 2005 because my parents were here and I wanted to stay with them. I would like to come back but only to visit my family. To integrate all the people I think that we can do more activities in the auditorium, for example, we can make murals with typical things of each country and then talk about it … Slide 6: Hello! I’m Jun Yu, I’m 15 years old and I was born in China. I came to Spain in 1999 because here my parents earn more money. I want to come back only on holiday, because in China there are a lot of problems… Here I live better, I have more freedom… To know more things about other cultures we can perform theatre plays, tell stories about our country… Hi, I’m Nahum, I’m 13 years old and I’m from Argentina. When I was six years old I came to Spain with my brothers and my mother because she wanted to come. I prefer to live in Argentina because there, I have my family, my friends... Teachers, here, treat us very well, they try to help us many times… Hello my name is Carolina, I am 13 years old and I am from Colombia. I came to Spain in 2001 because my parents wanted to come. I’d like to come back but only to visit my family. In the Licinio teachers help all the foreign kids, for example, to understand the language… Slide 7: CONCLUSIONS: We could see that most of foreign people have come to Spain because of their parents. Their parents must have left their country, for example, in order to look for a job in a different continent, because they couldn’t live on the money that they earned in their homeland. Others have come because the life here is better; here there is more freedom, more places to stay… But the people who suffer the consequences of the change are the children of the immigrants, because they are very young when they come and they don’t understand anything. They must leave their family, their friends…everything, to go to another country where all is different. In addition, some of them are discriminated when they arrive, because of their skin colour or because of their culture. And it is terrifying for them since they don’t have friends, their family is very, very far and moreover, they are rejected… I think that they are very interesting people, they know a lot of things that we can learn…, in conclusion, they are people just like us, so we must treat them like we treat our friends. Slide 8: What can we do? In order to help them so that they don’t feel discriminated against, we should do many things. For example, we can talk to them, thus, we’ll learn more things about their culture and they won’t feel isolated. We can perform theatre plays in order to see what they do in their countries, how their lives are… In addition, we could tell stories of each country in some classes… But do or not these things depend on the intentions that we have and on the interest and the intentions of our teachers… because it takes a lot of time and they only are paid to teach , although it is another way to teach, isn’t it? In conclusion, I think that if everyone collaborates, we will get the most important thing: living like brothers and sisters in a multicultural universe.
