Slide 2: Technology for Australia’s Seniors About this website This website is an Internet portal with links to interactive multimedia internet-based activities and Internet tutorials suitable for everyone, but especially seniors. This site also is a wonderful resource for teachers and trainers working in different contexts; this includes social workers, youth leaders, carers and aged care professionals. Slide 3: Technology for Australia’s Seniors Why did we create this site In 2008, survey conducted by Department of Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) as to ICT use inside and outside of educational institutions identified online games and social networking and media sites to be of interest and used frequently by many respondent groups, often outside of educational institutions (see page 9 of the Report).In terms of learning, survey and focus groups' responses identified the following benefits of ICT: Access to information Educational games facilitating independent learning Maths and English Literacy Slide 4: Technology for Australia’s Seniors Therefore … This website is a response to the demand expressed by the community leaders, trainers, parents and teachers working in a community context for a quick reference site, with links to online ICT (Information & Communication Technology) activities for all ages, and supporting different needs and interests. This handbook offers links to such resources which, otherwise, are scattered across different websites and, therefore, are difficult to find quickly and when needed. Slide 5: Technology for Australia’s Seniors What can you find here This site provides an easy way to navigate through these resources and, where needed, you will find online tutorials illustrating different technical skills and examples of use. All this gives our site a unique purpose and value.All listed resources are in public domain and, therefore, are free to use. Typically they are designed by educational organisations or companies.All tutorials included in here are either in public domain, or were created by the owners of this site. Slide 6: Technology for Australia’s Seniors ICT and Dementia – Researches found that the internet-accessible computer activities were even more successful than classic exercises of mental stimulation commonly used with dementia patients. This slide shows a menu with games used by researchers in those studies. Working with aged care staff in using technology to connect people and to support older people’s interests and wellbeing. Facilitating a discussion forum for carers to exchange experiences in working with technology in aged care contexts.
