Lesson Objectives : 

Lesson Objectives By the end of this lesson you will be able to: Identify 4 specific areas that have been affected by global warming with 85% accuracy. Explain how these areas have been affected by global warming with 85% accuracy. Conduct an internet video search around the topic of global warming’s affect on life on Earth, with 85% accuracy.

Lesson Objectives You will be able to: Compare and contrast the effects of global warming in at least 4 distinct areas of life with 85% accuracy. Create a campaign presentation illustrating how global warming may affect the life of students today based on information gathered in internet video search and discussion, using word processing, spreadsheet report, and appropriate graphics integration.

Motivation : 

Motivation Global warming can lead to drastic changes on Earth’s surface and weather patterns. It could also lead to deadly storms. Based on the information given in the video found on the following slide, explain why it may be dangerous for humans to not be made aware of the changes.

Team Work (groups of 4) : 

Team Work (groups of 4) Each student-team is asked the question, “How is global warming affecting life on Earth?” To effectively answer this and other related questions, you (as a team) must conduct an investigative study.

Activities prior to computer use: Each team of 4 students will engage in a brainstorming session to: Clarify the problem you will solve Determine the type of data/ information you will look for on the Internet searches. Group members will answer questions found on think sheets (Handout/ Appendix). Groups will design and decorate the campaign presentation.

Activities at the computer: Conduct an internet video search around the topic of global warming’s affect on life on Earth. These links show how biotic and abiotic factors effect global changes. VIDEO: What If Earth Warms 6 Degrees? http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/05/080509-sixdegrees-video-wc.html This site expresses the urgency of reducing greenhouse gases by showing how much life on earth could change with a 6 degree increase in temperature.

Activities at the computer: Summarize by citing details found when viewing links. Identify 4 specific areas that have been affected by global warming. Create a spreadsheet that summarizes how each area areas has been affected by global warming Each group creates a presentation using word processing, presentation applications (ex: PowerPoint) and a spreadsheet report to share a summary of the information gathered with class. Insert 6 graphics that relate to the topic into presentation.

Activities post computer use: Group members will process and organize information found during their search through discussion. Group members will formulate an answer to the problem statement.

Results presentation Team presentation : 

Results presentation Team presentation Students will design a campaign using presentation applications illustrating how global warming may affect the life of students today based on information gathered in internet video search and discussion using word processing. Students will use varying presentation formats including the use of spreadsheet report, and appropriate graphics integration.

Conclusion : 

Conclusion This lesson focused on the effects of global warming on various life-forms on Earth If humans do not become aware of their impact on the global warming phenomena, then they and other life forms will eventually become extinct on Earth. The next logical question to ponder is: What can people do to affect a positive change in global warming?

Appendix : 

Appendix How is global warming affecting life on Earth? Think sheet: 1. What are some evidences of natural changes that are due to the greenhouse effect? Explain. 2. How does one change in an ecosystem affect the biotic factors within that ecosystem? 3. If trends do not change, what could that mean for human life? 4. Besides causing death, what are other ways global warming is affecting living organisms on Earth? 5. If this planet continues in its present trend, what might happen meteorologically that would affect national living as we know it?
