Family Promise of Southern Worcester County presents The Grace House Shelter A safe place in a time of crisis

Slide 2: 

In 2010 over 4500 families were turned away from state-funded shelter placement. That was 1 of every 2 families who walked through the door needing a safe place to sleep.

Slide 3: 

Over 5000 children were denied a safe and secure place to stay. They returned to overcrowded, unhealthy and potentially dangerous housing until there is an opening at a place like Grace House.

In 2001, 12 Congregations Decided to Make a Difference for Those Children : 

In 2001, 12 Congregations Decided to Make a Difference for Those Children They opened their fellowship halls and committed their resources to provide a safe place to stay for parents and their children in a housing crisis.

The Grace House Shelter : 

The Grace House Shelter Thanks to the support of over 450 volunteers from over 25 local congregations, over 200 families have found shelter with us.

That is over 500 children that didn't stay in overcrowded and unsafe housing.

A Place to Call Home : 

A Place to Call Home Children staying at Grace House know they don't have to move from couch to couch or even worse, spend a night in a park or in a car.

Volunteer “Duties” Include : 

Volunteer “Duties” Include Playing board games Helping with homework Lending an ear Reading a story Smiling and offering encouragement

A typical Grace House visit... : 

A typical Grace House visit... Saturday Afternoon at Grace House Arrive at 1pm-Meet Guests and complete introductions Read to Abby (age 2) while her mom does the lunch dishes Sit out back with guests and listen to stories of hard work.

Get caught up on your favorite novel while little ones sleep. And on the way out the door little Jamie (age 5) offers a hug and a “thank you”.

We don't always see the impact... :
