The Milky Way :The Milky Way Mystery of our Galaxy by Room 219

Slide 4:These are all of the planets you will be looking at. This is the whole solar system.

Mercury :Mercury Mercury was named after the Greek/Roman god of travel, trade and robbery. It has craters like the Moon.

Life on Mercury? :Life on Mercury? There cannot be life on Mercury because: it is too hot AND too cold it is too small there are no trees to make oxygen there is no atmosphere there is no water there is no food

Venus: The Death Planet :Venus: The Death Planet Venus is almost the same size as Earth. The atmosphere is way too hot for anyone to live on the planet. The greenhouse effect makes it hotter and hotter. If it wasn’t so hot, we could live there if we could provide trees to make oxygen. And... (insert sound effect)

Slide 8:It rains poisonous chemicals!

Slide 9:No wonder we can’t live on Venus.

Earth :Earth Earth has life on it. We live here! The temperature can be -126 degrees to 136 degrees F. There are many different continents. Earth is mostly water. The Earth has a magnetic field. Earth has one moon.

Slide 12:Hopefully, this will never happen again.

Slide 13:This is what it looked like when meteors hit the Earth 65 million years ago when dinosaurs lived on the Earth.

Mars :Mars There might be water on Mars. Mars is cold, not hot. Olympus Mons is named after the home of the gods. America sent robots up to Mars to take pictures. Mars has two moons named Phobos and Deimos, which means Fear and Panic.

Mars, Part II :Mars, Part II Earth is bigger than Mars. Mars is a very small planet compared to Saturn. Mars is a little planet, but it has the biggest volcanoes and mountains ever. Valles Marineris is much bigger than the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is like a crack in the sidewalk compared to Valles Marineris. America uses rovers to study Mars.

Slide 16:These are the moons of Mars and also some other asteroids.

Slide 17:Jupiter: The Big Ball of Weather Jupiter rotates faster than any other planet. Jupiter has lots of swirly clouds. Jupiter has a pattern. It has dark clouds and light clouds. There is wind that goes 260 miles per hour. Jupiter is gas, dust and wind. You cannot stand on it. Jupiter has 60 moons. One of its moons, Europa, has ice and snow on it. Lucky moon! (And water too! More water than the Earth.) Could there be any life there?

Jupiter’s Moon Io :Jupiter’s Moon Io Jupiter has a moon called Io. Some of us think it looks like vomit. Others think it looks like a rotten meatball, a potato, a face, an egg, or a basketball. The reason Io looks like these things is that it has volcanoes.

Slide 19:Saturn Saturn has a moon named Titan. It’s the second largest moon in the solar system. Saturn’s rings are made out of mostly ice and rocks. They are divided into six. Saturn has 52 named moons. Part of Saturn’s rings are its moons. Saturn is just like Jupiter because it’s made out of gas.

Slide 20:Saturn, Part II Saturn has a lot of clouds. Saturn has a pattern. Saturn has the most moons and wind. Saturn is bigger than Earth.

Slide 21:Saturn

Slide 23:Saturn’s Rings

Uranus: The Klutz Planet :Uranus: The Klutz Planet Uranus is blue because of the air. Uranus is like a blue marble. Uranus is the “klutz planet” because we think that it banged into another planet and it tilted sideways. Uranus has 14 known rings. Uranus has 27 known moons. Maybe they were made from the collision.

Neptune :Neptune Neptune is the 8th planet in our solar system. It has a ring around, but you can’t really see it because it’s made out of dust. Neptune has the biggest storm in our Solar System. Neptune has hurricane-like storms.

Pluto and Pluto’s moon, Charon :Pluto and Pluto’s moon, Charon

Pluto, the dwarf planet :Pluto, the dwarf planet Pluto looks like the “snowball planet” because it is ice. Some parts are a little warmer than other spots. In the 1980s, astronomers made crude maps that showed Pluto’s polar caps and darker spots. Pluto is smaller than any other planet.

Pluto :Pluto The Disney character was named after Pluto, the snowball. Pluto is a playful puppy. If you stepped on Pluto for two seconds, you would freeze. Pluto’s ice is partly made from gas. Pluto’s moons are named Charon, Hydra and Nix, and they are very small.
