In 1992, I married a military man and moved to New York where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management in 1995 from Nyack College. I currently live in Statesboro, GA. I have been working for over 15 years in the Information Technology field. In 2010, I returned to Georgia Southern to complete my Masters Degree in Education in the Instructional Technology program. Meet the Family : I have been married to George Fechter for 19 years who is a Nuclear Engineer at Plant Hatch in Baxley, GA. I have a beautiful, 14 year old daughter, Julia Fechter who is now a freshman at Statesboro High School. I also have three miniature Dachshunds (Hercules, Carlye and Scarlett). 2 Meet the Family My Current Job : In 2009, I accepted the position of Instructional Designer in the Center for Online Learning (COL), Georgia Southern University (GSU) . After working in this position for a little over a year, it became clear to me that I needed to complete my Master’s degree in the Instructional Technology field. I love my job! The field of instructional design has helped me to marry the two things I love most about my work – organization and learning. In 2010, I was promoted and am now working as the primary GeorgiaView Trainer and soon to be one of the Desire to Learn (D2L) trainers on campus. Additionally, I continue to work as an Instructional Designer for the COL. I have worked at GSU in other IT departments on campus as well since 1999. 3 My Current Job All Georgia Southern University images are used with permission of the Center for Online Learning at Georgia Southern University, August 17, 2010. My Online Learning Experience & Goals : Online learning offers me the flexibility and convenience I need as a non-traditional student. Taking online courses allows me to spend more quality time with my husband and daughter and still work towards achieving my goal of completing my Master's degree and becoming more educated in the field of Instructional Technology. The online courses are "student centered," which is exactly where the focus needs to be. The online classes that I have taken have been a challenge and are very relevant to the work I do in the COL. I believe the knowledge acquired so far has helped me to become a better Instructional Designer. 4 My Online Learning Experience & Goals Professional Accomplishments : Successfully taught all of the GeorgiaView Workshops on campus and developed content for these workshops. Created instructional video tutorials and screencasts for Faculty and Students at Georgia Southern University. Co-presented at the Distance Learning Association Conference in 2010 and co-wrote a paper on Using Social Media in the Learning Management System for this proceeding. Successfully managed an IT HelpDesk for 5 years. Acquired my A+ and Microsoft Certifications. Successfully managed the Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Office of Development. Organized the MUSC Children’s Hospital Heart Picnic for 2 years and supervised a group of administrative employees. 5 Professional Accomplishments Availability for Collaboration : M-Th: any time after 8 p.m. Saturday: any time between 9 a.m. and 12 noon. Sunday: any time after 1:00 p.m. I can use any of these tools: Wimba, GeorgiaView Chat, GoogleDocs, Google Sites, and/or pbworks. My schedule is as crazy as yours! I consider this course a priority though and I will be a dependable group member. I believe this course is a timely one. As Sean Covey says, “it’s always a good time to sharpen the saw”. I can make time to learn something new. I am taking this course because I want to learn better ways to evaluate programs on campus and because it is a requirement in this program area. 6 Availability for Collaboration Covey, S.
