Slide 17:Romans 1:18-23 Scripture Reading
Slide 18:Romans 1:18-23 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
Slide 19:Romans 1:18-23 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
Slide 20:Romans 1:18-23 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
Slide 21:Romans 1:18-23 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man-and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
Rebellion: The Cause of Sin :Rebellion: The Cause of Sin Romans 1:18-23
Slide 23:unrighteousness Sexual immorality wickedness covetousness maliciousness envy strife murder deceit Evil-mindedness whisperers backbiters violent proud boasters Inventors of evil things Haters of God undiscerning untrustworthy unloving unforgiving unmerciful Disobedient to parents ROOTS OF REBELLION
Slide 24:I. Human Guilt
Slide 25:A. Rejection of God’s Revelation (1:18-21)
1. God’s Wrath on Sin
The Bible teaches very clearly that God is just and holy. Because this is His character, God is angry with everything that is evil. He is against everyone who chooses to follow evil.
Slide 26:Rejection of God’s Revelation (1:18-21)
2. Man’s Rejection of God
The spiritual blindness and darkness which they later experience are the results of their choice, not of their ignorance.
They do not know God because they do not want to.
Slide 27:B. Worship of Created Things (1:21-23)
1. Dark and foolish minds
God is light. When men turn away from the light, they go into darkness. God is truth. When men turn away from truth and wisdom, they become foolish.
Slide 28:B. Worship of Created Things (1:21-23)
2. Worship of Images
Men are made to worship something. So when they turn away from God, what do they worship?
They turn to love things which are created. Instead of worshipping God, they worship the things He has made.
Slide 29:II. God’s Judgement
Slide 30:When men rejected Him, God ‘gave them over’ to their sin. This is mentioned three times in verses 24-32.
Slide 31:A. Man’s Body Degraded (1:24-27)
It is a fact that one who continually yields to temptation will gradually commit greater sins until he is a complete slave. And because his heart is deceitful, he will call his slavery ‘freedom’.
Slide 32:B. Man’s Mind Corrupted (1:28-32)
Not only does sin destroy the body but it depraves or corrupts the mind.
