Keys to identifying scholarship :

Is the article signed? Are the author(s)’ credentials given? How many pages? Scholarship is usually at least 4 pages, and anything over 10 pages is probably scholarly. Is there a bibliography? How many references are cited? Is there an abstract? Does it indicate that it is a study? When in doubt… Look for “peer-reviewed” or “refereed” to describe the journal in either a database or on the publisher’s Web page; Ask your instructor if it’s okay to use in your literature review; Or send me the citation—I’ll be happy to evaluate it for you.
