Slide 1:EDU 505: Introduction to Educational Technology Final Presentation Leigh Marcischak Fall 2009


Slide 2:* Element One: Identify and describe different genres of text.Students will create a Microsoft Word document describing different genres of text. They will use prior knowledge, online dictionaries, and other specified sites to research definitions and examples of each genre. * Element Two: Identify the author's intended purpose in writing text.Students will read specific text and determine whether it is written to entertain, explain, inform, or persuade. Students will respond to questions posted about text examples on class www.weebly.com BLOG. * Element Three: Distinguish parts of text that support author's intended purpose. Students will create an Animoto slide-show to display knowledge of author's intended purpose in writing text and ability to distinguish parts of text that support author's purpose. Objectives & Rationale The GOAL is for students to identify and describe the author’s purpose in text. The students will utilize technology to demonstrate understanding of different genres of text, author’s purpose, and articulate differences among them. The MATERIALS used/required include: Language Arts textbook, PSSA workbooks, dictionaries, access to computer lab, printer, and Microsoft software.

Slide 4:ELEMENT TWO R6.A.2.6.1 - Identify the author’s intended purpose of text. Student will read text and distinguish whether it was written to entertain, explain, inform, convince, persuade, or instruct. Students will read and interpret several passages and respond to class BLOG (www.weebly.com) questions. Materials Required – Students will need access to the following: Teacher-selected copies of author’s purpose example passages, dictionaries, computer use, internet access, www.weebly.com accounts, printer, DLP


Slide 5:R6.A.2.6.2 - Identify, explain, and/or describe examples of text that support the author’s intended purpose. Students will be able to distinguish parts of the text that support the author’s intended purpose. They will demonstrate knowledge on Animoto website. A slide-show illustrating understanding will be created by each student. ELEMENT THREE Materials Required – Students will need access to the following: Teacher-selected copies of author’s purpose example passages, dictionaries, computer access, internet access, www.animoto.com accounts, printer, previous training on using Animoto


Slide 6:Students will read teacher-selected passages. Next, they will log-in to www.weebly.com and access our class BLOG. Responses to each passage containing author’s purpose will be assessed using the rubric. Teacher will use the rubric to assess whether objectives have been met. STUDENT BLOG RUBRIC
