PowerPoint Presentation:

5 years of research into great slides = my book ‘PowerPoint Surgery’. This is my book in 20 slides…

PowerPoint Presentation:

Text heavy slide warning(!) Ironically the way that Slideshare works bests is to upload slides without video or audio. This means that slides about good slides end up being text heavy! If I was to present these slides live they’d have hardly any words on them. Oh, the irony :)

PowerPoint Presentation:

‘When we understand that slide, we'll have won the war’ General Stanley McChrystal NATO commander

PowerPoint Presentation:

There’s nothing new about using slides, the problem is that it’s now too easy to create bad ones…

PowerPoint Presentation:

Don't blame us! …and when we do bad slides we blame our software!

PowerPoint Presentation:

great slides in a nutshell

PowerPoint Presentation:

First of all. Stop! Always ask yourself - do I need slides?

ARE A:

YOU ARE A GNER! DESI- < whether you like it or not this is true !

PowerPoint Presentation:

Think billboard not document… …remember this little phrase and it will change the way you design slides forever!

Design your slides for this person and remember the 3 second rule:

Design your slides for this person and remember the 3 second rule …if you can’t read it in 3 seconds its too complicated!

PowerPoint Presentation:

It’s not the 90’s anymore so please stop using clipart and cheesy stock photos!

PowerPoint Presentation:

My friend / speaker Emma Sutton used this image of her 17 year old Great Great Uncle in WW1. It made her talk even more moving.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Let your images breath.

PowerPoint Presentation:

bullets kill people and presentations! It’s not death -by-powerpoint it’s death -by-bulletpoint.

Boring title :

Boring title 1. Bullet point 2. Next bullet point 3. I’m playing a game on my iPhone 4. I’m starting to feel sleepy 5. Can I leave the room please? 6. I’m losing the will to live here 7. I’ve forgotten my name, I want to go home and sit in a darkened room

PowerPoint Presentation:

Point 1 Point 2 Point 3 Point 4 Even simple speech bubbles make better bullets, but they are still not great Point 5

PowerPoint Presentation:

DO NOT USE LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG animations or transitions either… Its only dressing up bulletpoints anyway.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Don't use animated gifs and cartoons, because, if the screen is moving in the background they won’t look at you (and that is a bad thing!)

PowerPoint Presentation:

Cognitive load theory… …states that our short-term memory is limited. So, people can either listen to you or read complex slides. Not both.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Complex data can be presented simply. Our job as speakers is to crunch the numbers for our audience. Keep it simple like Asda did here in their recent TV ad.

PowerPoint Presentation:

And lastly don't hide behind your slides! A great presentation is about you and your story. Be 100% you, then add 25%.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Praise for ‘Powerpoint Surgery’ “Lee takes a clever and refreshing approach to presentation mastery.” Nancy Duarte, author of ‘Slide:ology’/‘Resonate’ “Powerpoint Surgery is an invaluable resource...and I highly recommend it...” Jeremy Waite, Head of Social Strategy, Adobe “Lee Jackson is the Yoda of PowerPoint” Derek Cheshire (Amazon review) “Michael Jackson was to Pop what Lee Jackson is to Slides” Geoff Ramm International Marketing Speaker “Jackson has got a bl***y nerve asking me to write a testimonial for his book.
