Lindbergh Baby:

Lindbergh Baby bjkbkjb Crime of the century… Kidnapping…

When & Where:

When & Where On March 1, 1932 at 9:00 p.m. Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr. was kidnapped. This infant boy (only 20 months old) was the son of Anne and Charles Lindbergh who were both very famous aviators. He was kidnapped from the nursery in his house on the second floor near Hopewell, New Jersey.

Clues and Notes:

Clues and Notes A note demanding $50,000 was first discovered on the nursery window sill, and then muddy footsteps were found. There was also a long ladder found that was leaned up against the side of their house. Police officers and staff workers were contacted immediately after Charles and Anne returned home at 10:00 p.m.

Ransom Notes:

Ransom Notes The first note on the windowsill was a note stating that $50,000 be paid. The second note was sent in the mail demanding that they pay $70,000 if they ever want to see their baby again. The third note was received by Lindbergh’s attorney, and it asked for someone to act as a mediator (they would take care of transferring messages).

Ransom Notes (continued):

Ransom Notes (continued) Mr. Condon (retired teacher) was chosen to be the mediator and he got a fourth note. He later dropped off $70,000 in ransom to the kidnappers. There were up to thirteen notes exchanged in total, and more money was also given to the kidnappers.

A Fatal Ending:

A Fatal Ending On May 12 (which was 72 days after the kidnapping), an infant’s perishing body was discovered in the woods near the Lindbergh’s house. This little boy with a fractured skull was recognized as Charles Jr. This kidnapping story turned into a murder investigation.

WHO???:

WHO??? 1934: Bruno Richard Hauptmann was caught for murdering Charles Jr. when they found $14,000 in his house. This money was given to him as a ransom from the Lindbergh family. He denied being guilty, and said the money he received was given to him by a good friend. Edward J. Reilly was his lawyer, and he didn’t succeed. Bruno was convicted of the crime and received the death sentence.

Justice is Served:

Justice is Served The New Jersey Governor named Harold Hoffman made a mysterious visit to Bruno’s jail cell several months before he was executed. In an attempt to save Bruno he wanted the case to be re-examined, because he felt that Bruno was not guilty. Despite his support, Bruno was executed in the electric chair on April 3, 1936 in the New Jersey State Prison.
