How does it affect Mental Health? : 

How does it affect Mental Health? Have you often wondered why you feel refreshed after a work out or a jog? Its because you body send endorphins(natural opiates are chemically similar to morphine) to your brain which causes it to release pressure. Its proven that people who spend 30 to 60 minutes in a pool have lower levels of depression, tension and anger. Another reason to work up a sweat is because exercise works as natures form of Prozac, boosting brain levels of norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin. These are three neurotransmitters that elevate mood.

Experiments All of this latest research on exercise and the brain seems to suggest that some minimum level of physical activity is important for keeping the brain functioning at normal levels. "Exercise affects more than the muscle," says Edgerton From Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Guang Yue and his colleagues found that the muscles of a group that performed the exercises with low mental effort showed only a small improvement in strength -- about 3 percent. The muscles of the group that trained with high mental effort, grew significantly stronger -- by about 15 percent. The brain signal, measured by scalp EEG-derived movement-related cortical potential, also increased in the high mental effort group, but not in the low mental effort group.

Affecting the Mood : 

Affecting the Mood As you exercise, your heart rate increases and circulates super oxygenated blood at faster rates. As you exercise your heart rate will increase and circulate super oxygenated blood at faster rates. After this happens it is released to the rest of the muscles, brain and body. The effect of this increase in rich blood allows for a quicker recovery and an overall better levels of productivity. A long term exercise can lead to higher self esteem

Memory Your brain is made up of two types of matter: 1.Gray matter is the thin layer of cells, such as neurons and support cells, that are critically involved in learning and memory. 2. White matter is the insulating myelin sheath containing the nerve fibers that transmit signals throughout the brain like an electrical cord - organic wires wrapped in insulation to carry the electricity from the one place to another. Its proven that exercise can reduce the risk of any further declines in memory loss and may even improve cognitive function.

Ways to Improve Memory “Neurobic” exercise is an aerobic exercise for your brain that forces you to use your faculties in unusual ways, like showering and getting dressed with your eyes closed. Switch the hand you are using to control the computer mouse. Use the hand you normally do NOT use. By using this hand it is making your brain work harder and learning new skills. Getting dressed with your eyes closed,Washing your hair with your eyes closed,and Share a meal and use only visual cues to communicate. No talking. Is ways to improve the memory.

But doesn’t take to much physical activity to help prevent this disease. -Researchers from Sweden found that people in their middle ages who exercised during their free time at least twice a week were 60 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease compared to sedentary men and women who exercised less than twice a week. - What people don’t realize that its not just any workout. It needs to be at least a 20 to 30 minutes and intense enough to cause sweating for it to make a difference.

Its also a treatment to mild or moderate depression. -Some examples of exercises for people with mild or moderate depression is Yoga, swimming, dancing, and even gardening. -Depression is one of the most common problems people experience today, but it’s treatable with medication, therapy and other self-help options. Have you ever considered exercise as part of your treatment? Study after study has shown that exercise is a helpful way to treat depression because it: Increases your sense of mastery which can help people who don't feel in control of their moods Increase self esteem Provides a distraction from your worries Helps you get rid of built-up stress and frustration

Exercise for people with Special Need - People with special needs also need physical activity because it keeps their mind working and also relieves weariness and boredom. It also helps their fear and depression give away to confidence and peace of mind. - It improves their attitude about themselves and others. - For mentally retarded people or those who suffer from physical handicaps exercise can improve more positive self image and an intellectual functioning.
