Attachments

What is an email attachment?:

What is an email attachment? An email attachment is a computer file which is sent along with an email message. You can send documents, photos, movies, music, etc. The file is not a separate message, but is sent as part of the message to which it is attached. Gmail allows an attachment of 20MB.

A Word of Caution:

A Word of Caution Worms and viruses are often distributed as attachments to email messages. With vulnerable email programs, the virus may be activated by viewing or previewing the message. More robust programs only allow infection if the user opens the attachment for execution.

Adding Attachment to Message:

Opening the file displays the attachment in a new window. When you're finished reading the attached file, close the new browser window to return to Gmail.

View Attachment as HTML:

View Attachment:

View Attachment In this example, we will be viewing the attachment as a slideshow. Click “View as Slideshow”

Sending Large Attachments:

Sending Large Attachments With Gmail, you can send and receive messages up to 20 megabytes (MB) in size. When you add an attachment, the size of a file may increase because transport encodings are automatically added.

Sending Large Attachments:

Sending Large Attachments Example: An attachment that is 17 to 20MB in size may push the total message size above 20MB. Please note that you may not be able to send larger attachments to contacts who use other email services with smaller attachment limits. If your attachment bounces, you should invite them to Gmail.

Sending Photo Attachments:

Sending Photo Attachments In some cases, the message and photos attached are silently discarded if the file size limit is exceeded. To avoid this happening, there are two possible ways to prevent this: Send smaller batches. Reduce the resolution and size of the images (this will allow you to send more images in a single batch).

Exercise Time:

Exercise Time Take a short break – stand up, stretch, move around, and SMILE.

Labels

Folders vs. Labels:

Folders vs. Labels Gmail does NOT use folders. To help you organize your mail more effectively, Gmail uses labels instead.

Using Labels:

Using Labels Labels do all the work folders do and give you an extra bonus: you can add more than one to a conversation. Once you've created a label, you can view all the messages with that label by searching, or by clicking the label name along the left side of any Gmail page.

Let’s View a Demo on Labels:

Security

Concerns About Security:

Concerns About Security It is recommended to always use a secure connection when checking email on a public network (such as at the library). Google claims that Gmail has always supported HTTPS, but you had to add the "s" to the URL prefix manually to access the encrypted version of the service by logging in at "https://mail.google.com," not "https://www.gmail.com."

Make Gmail Secure:

Make Gmail Secure To use a secure connection, redirect http://gmail.google.com/ to https://mail.google.com/. OR You can change your Gmail to always use a secure encrypted connection by simply changing your settings.

Change Settings for Security:

Change Settings for Security Click Settings in the top-right corner of the main Gmail page Scroll down to Browser connection at the bottom of the window, Select Always use https Click Save Changes. The next time you open your Gmail in-box, the transmissions will be encrypted.
