"Most importantly If you cannot afford to tip 20%, then DO NOT GO OUT TO EAT." I 100% AGREE if you can't tip properly, don't order the ribs or a steak or that expensive margarita. Don't go out to eat at all if you aren't willing to tip your server if they didn't give you bad service!!! "I am a poor college student, I always tip at least 20%." That's why you probably have bad service at times. We don't always tip 20%, because the service isn't always worth that. There are a lot of lazy servers out there. Why should I tip you well if you got something in my order wrong and then on top of that didn't say you were sorry? So I am supposed to FORGIVE you in the tip if you didn't say you were sorry? NO WAY!!! If you do, you get SOME forgiveness, but not all the way or you will NEVER LEARN!! Service is bad these days a lot of times, because of people like you that tip well NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS!!! No one will ever learn to do things the way you want them to if there is no incentive to by paying them no matter what they mess up or forget.

"Leaving $8 on a $65 bill is completely inappropriate." It's appropriate if you gave no-so-good service. A good example, if you got the order OBVIOUSLY wrong such as brought out the wrong side dish when YOU took the order and didn't say you were sorry, what do you expect, a gold medal? Why reward the uncaring, lazy servers that don't compare their written orders to what they bring you? Most of the time it's that and not a REAL mistake that they actually TRIED to verified things. It's called positive and negative reinforcement. If I keep paying you 20% or more when you get my order right, then when you got it wrong, you got 12% as in your example, don't you think that would be an INCENTIVE to step up your game to try HARDER NEXT TIME AROUND? "If you make me grab you 85 thousand cups of ranch and 2700 fry or drink refills then you need to tip 20 fucking percent." Not if you get things WRONG, NOW WAY!!I don't care how many trips you made if the stuff you bring me is OBVIOUSLY WRONG OR YOU FORGET THINGS,especially if you were too lazy to WRITE IT DOWN!! You aren't entitled to a tip, it's EARNED!!! If you mess up majorly such as ringing up the wrong food entirely or forgetting to put an order in, ask the manager to comp something. Don't make us call the manager or you shouldn't get any tip, a big fat zero for not even trying to *CARE* about us. If you only care about you, it will show in the tip that most people give.(I am not talking about the cheapskates.

"If you don’t tip us at least 15%, you fuck up our ENTIRE night and possibly our entire week. When you tip poorly, we cannot pay our bills." What someone tips depends on the SERVICE for most people. When you give us poor service, we have every right to treat your tip in the same manner you treated us. My husband and I tip 20% plus at times for VERY GOOD service. The thing is, most of the servers out there SUCK in general. They get your order wrong, they don't say they are sorry when they mess up, they decide to do things out of order making the first person wait the longest at times, they overcharge you, they forget things due to not writing them down to even TRY to remember them, etc. I am sick of the lazy servers is what I am saying. If you bust your butt and do a good job, then you should get good tips, but if you don't try your best, what do you expect? "If my sales are $200, I need to tip out 1% ($2) to the food expediter, the bartender, and the busser. Therefore, I am not even keeping $6 that I earned that night. Imagine if my sales are $500….I have to tip out $15." In my eyes, your posts sounds like you feel ENTITLED to a tip, because you have to tip out. Customers don't have to be concerned with that. They are tipping YOU for YOUR PERFORMANCE. I agree that if they are giving a bad tip to you just because they are being cheap, those are assholes. I am talking about if you give bad service, you don't deserve a good tip.

A Guide to tipping properly :

A Guide to tipping properly For all of you fucking idiots who don’t know how…

Our pay :

Our pay A servers pay depends directly upon how much you tip them. Servers make $2.65 an hour, which means our paychecks are roughly $40 a week. If you don’t tip us at least 15%, you fuck up our ENTIRE night and possibly our entire week. When you tip poorly, we cannot pay our bills.

The math :

The math On top of us being paid less than $3 an hour, we have to tip people out at the end of the night. (most restaurants have their servers do this) If my sales are $200, I need to tip out 1% ($2) to the food expediter, the bartender, and the busser. Therefore, I am not even keeping $6 that I earned that night. Imagine if my sales are $500….I have to tip out $15.

More math :

More math If your meal costs you $45, then to tip 20% you need to leave $9. It’s called ROUNDING UP for those of you who seem to have forgotten your elementary school math. Leaving $8 on a $65 bill is completely inappropriate. Leaving $3 on a $45 bill is even more rude. If you make me grab you 85 thousand cups of ranch and 2700 fry or drink refills then you need to tip 20 fucking percent.

Most importantly :

Most importantly If you cannot afford to tip 20%, then DO NOT GO OUT TO EAT. I am a poor college student, I always tip at least 20%. So screw all of you trashy hillbillies and cheap ass people out there. Stay home, make some macaroni and cheese and hotdogs and call it a night because we don’t want your business.
