Slide 1:

Why is pollution harmful to our environment?

Purpose :

Purpose To educate people that pollution is harmful so that we can live in a healthier environment.

Slide 3:

We will be discussing two types of pollution. They are WATER POLLUTION And * AIR POLLUTION

Slide 4:

Pollution of rivers and lakes is caused by potentially harmful chemical contaminants and has become one of the most dangerous environmental problems in the 20th century. What is water pollution?

Slide 5:

Mixing clean with dirty is not the way to go.

What are some types of water pollution? :

What are some types of water pollution? Thermal pollution occurs when natural temperature water is interacted with a different temperature water. Thermal pollution is harmful because it causes abnormal effects in our environment, for example a fish could eat some kind of the toxic pollution, and we could end eating the fish as seafood . There has been an increase in thermal pollution due to mainly industrial manufacturers. Uses of water as a coolant by power plants and then returned to the environment at a much higher temperature is a sudden change for animals to adapt to the change.

Toxic Waste :

Toxic Waste Toxic waste pollution has a huge impact on our health and can harm many plants and animals that live in the ocean. Toxic waste is poisonous to our ocean and to us humans too. Toxic waste ends up in the ocean by leaking off landfills, mines, farms, etc. Transporting (often by sea) waste to another country runs the frightening risk of spillages. The receiving country often lacks the expertise and technology to deal with the toxic waste in the safest way - local people are then at risk.

Oil Pollution :

Oil Pollution Oil pollution disastrous problem to the ocean. Small amounts of oil can form deadly oil slicks. 60 million gallons of oil are spilled into the ocean yearly. Tanker spills are an increasing environmental problem because its almost impossible to completely remove it. Attempts to chemically treat or sink the oil may further disrupt marine and beach ecosystems.

Slide 10:

First of all, pollution greatly increased during the industrial revolution in the 19th century. The smoke in factories caused rivers and lakes to become dirty and polluted. In 1952 the great smog in London greatly increase pollution because they burned more coal than usual. This fog lasted for three days killing 4000 people. How does pollution start?

Slide 11:

Noise Pollution disrupts our world

Slide 12:

What is air pollution? Air pollution is when the air is filled with toxins and it can affect our health in negative ways. The air can be contaminated because of acid rain and burning of fossil fuels. Also some gases such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfur oxide create smog and acid rain which is very harmful to the air. Air pollution is the introduction of harmful chemicals that can harm our world. It is one of the biggest concerns on our planet, Air pollution most common near places with factories, farm, and power plants

Slide 13:

help decrease and eliminate waste by not using materials that are toxic conserve energy by using the amount of energy that is necessary in your household car pooling is another way to reduce air pollution by not using fossil fuels What can we do to save the environment?

Slide 14:

plant trees to reduce the amount carbon dioxide in the atmosphere use methods to produce another source of electrical energy recycle reusable items such as aluminum, plastic bottles, glass bottles, cans, paper, boxes, and metals What can we do to save the environment CONTINUED...

Slide 15:

How does it affect us? Animals? Environment? Too much hazardous toxic in the environment create asthma A short term effect can be irritation to the eyes, nose and throat It can also cause bronchitis One long term effect is lung cancer and heart disease

Slide 16:

It can even cause damage to brain, kidney and liver Animals can die Animals can also get strangles such as fish who get stuck in plastic bags and plastic rings. How does it affect us? Animals? Environment? CONTINUED…
