Textbook and Supplements: 

Textbook and Supplements Essential of Statistics, 2nd Edition; Mario F. Triola It is important to have the correct textbook beginning the first day of class. The textbook provides you will additional examples and practice exercises.

Website You will be required to use WebCT Vista throughout this semester. The URL is https://fvsu.view.usg.edu. You will be given your User Name and Password.

Calculator: 

Calculator The TI-83 Plus is required. (The TI-84+ can be substituated.) The textbook gives screen shots from this calculator.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions! Time will be allotted during class time for you to ask questions from the recommended and required practice exercises. Be prepared to ask specific questions!

Practice Exercises: 

Practice Exercises No good athlete succeeds at his or her sport without practice. No good math student does his or her best without practicing (doing the practice exercises.)

Math is not a spectator sport. It requires DOING the practice exercises in order to know whether you have grasped the concept.

Online Quizzes The online quizzes are part of your grade. They are not optional! The online quizzes will help prepare you for the chapter test associated with them.

Web Assistance: 

Web Assistance In addition to the textbook, students will be required to access, via the Internet, WebCT Vista, https://fvsu.view.usg.edu ,to practice and take quizzes, review additional applications, view your grades and take tests. This site will also be used to communicate with Mrs. Watson outside of class.

Attendance: 

Attendance Students are required to attend class in a timely manner. University Attendance Policy permits a maximum of three unexcused absences without penalty. For excessive tardiness and absences (beyond the allowable three unexcused absences), points will be deducted from the student’s overall grade point average as follows: One point will be deducted from the overall average for each absence beyond the three (3) allowable unexcused absences. Every three late arrivals will equal one absence.

Attendance Sign-in Roster: 

Attendance Sign-in Roster Students are required to sign the attendance roster each day. If the attendance roster has passed your desk when you arrive, you are tardy! It is your responsibility to sign the roster after class, using Mrs. Watson’s red pen.

Homework and Tests/Assessments:: 

Homework and Tests/Assessments: All homework assignments must be completed and submitted in a timely manner. Tests and departmental assessments will be announced in advance and administered in class according to a prescribed schedule. Only at the discretion of the professor and in exceptional cases (when official excuses are presented) will make-up opportunities be provided.

Learning Tools: 

Learning Tools Students are required to purchase a textbook and bring it to class. Paper, a pencil/pen, graph paper and a notebook are required. Students are expected to maintain an accurate record of their tests, graded homework, and assignments that are returned to them throughout the semester.

Technology Usage: 

Technology Usage Students are expected to log onto WebCT Vista to complete his/her homework assignments and tests. Students are also required to have and to bring a TI-83+ calculator to class.

Grading: 

Grading Final course grades will be determined as indicated by the following required weights: Final Exam 20% Midterm Exam 20% Projects 10% Participation 10% Test Average 40%

Letter Grades The scale for assigning letter grades is as follows: A: 100 – 90 B: 89 – 80 C: 79 – 70 D: 69 – 60 F: Below 60

Instructional Schedule The Instructional Schedule is a tentative schedule and is subject to change in accordance to needs of the class. The schedule is designed to give you advanced notice of what will be covered in class each day and when tests will be given.

Homework Assignments The schedule gives required practice exercises for each section covered.

Cellular phones and pagers must be turned to “silent” mode or turned off before coming into the classroom. On exam days, cell phones must be turned off. If your cell phone rings during an exam, your exam is over.
