In 1975 the advancement of dental service improve where the quotas for dental officer is 1 for every 2500 population. In the same year 628 Dental Clinic are located 50% in the rural area.

Pulpotomy (Rawatan saraf separuh) : Removiong top portion of tooth nerve that has been affected with out removing the entire tooth root / nerve Crown (Korona gigi): A type of tooth cover made of porcelin that is cemented and reduce the size of the tooth Bridge (Jambatan gigi) : 3 or more teeth coroner being attached together to replace missing teeth Braces (Pendakap gigi): Small metalic device that is attached to the teeth to repair teeth position as to make it more in line Implant (Tanam gigi): A type of screw attached to the jaw bones to replace teeth root that has gone to allow teeh crowning can be place to replace the missing teeth Halitosis: Oral odour that is a result of unclean teeth and tongue and sometime are cause by lack of saliva

Teeth can be eroding by using hard toothbrush or too frequent brushing. Myth : Frequent teeth scaling can make teeth unstable Facts :Tooth become unstable when bone used to whole them together is no longer there. These also are caused by thick build up that has make the gump hole bigger. Scaling can make the gump healthy thus the bone will come back and hold the tooth firmly.

Pulling out too early will make other teeth move into the empty space and the permanent teeth will have no more space to grow. Myth: If babies tooth have start to shake its better to pull it out Facts: Babies tooth is as important as permanent tooth. Furthermore it will effect the growth of the permanent teeth.

MYTH AND FACTS ABOUT DENTAL TREATMENT Myth : Dentist usually make big drill hole in small tooth. Facts: Sometimes the hole is small but the inner tooth is already rotten. Thus, when dentist clean all the infected area the hole become bigger. Myth : Fake teeth / denture is easier to wear and last longer. Facts : Denture will not last long because over time the gump and the jaw bone will shrink. Thus, denture will become loose and will have no place to hang on to and need to be replaced.

DENTAL OFFICER PATHWAY Having interest and and SPM or STPM result one must ask themselves of where to get started such as deciding between local or overseas universities. Here are the lists of both public and private universities that is acknowlwedge by the Ministry of Health Malaysia: Universiti Malaya (UM) Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)

For those who have more fortune to spend you can choose between these two private institutions: - Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology (AIMST) University-International Medical University ( IMU) For overseas universities the MARA sponsored student usually being sent to dental institute in India while those sponsored by JPA are being sent to Australia, India, New Zealand, Ireland and UK. To apply for scholarship, candidate can go online at JPA or eSILA around June and July every year. Candidate have to register first before applying, upon registration candidate has to print the registration slip as the prove of application. Candidates have to check their application status and interview result after 30 days.

DENTAL OFFICER They are responsible in providing dental service to the mass public. Dental officer is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing and the rest of other treatment such as scaling, pulling, bridging and other including dental surgery. Dental officer qualifications are: Degree in dentistry either from local or international universities that has been accredited by MOHE and Ministry of Health. Dental practitioner must register with the Malaysian Dentistry Council. Since 29 June 2001, every dental officer must serve in public clinic for at least three years. Starting grade are at P1T5 and dental officer may be post at Ministry of Health, Ministry of Defense, Department of the Orang Asli (Natives) and also private institution. Job Descriptions: •Promoting oral hygiene and dental health care to the public. •Help in preventing mouth, gump and tooth infection or disease •Detect and treat oral disease such as mouth cancer and gump disease. •Pull and patch caries tooth. •Responsible for all dental clinic administration and management.   Qualifications: Age: 19- 25 years old Gender: Male / Female

DENTAL OFFICER Certification : Having Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia ( STPM ) Science stream with credit in Bahasa Melayu, Science and Mathematic in SPM. ( Refer university application guideline book) Citizenship : Malaysia Successful candidates will be undergo training for 5 years in Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia or Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.   How to apply: Apply through Bahagian Pengambilan Universiti, UPU (Unit Pengambilan Universiti).   Scholarships: Candidate can apply for public and private scholarship for study fees and hostel.  Course structure: Durations 5 Tahun Year1 & 2 -- 4 semester (Pre- clinical) Year 3, 4 & 5 -- 6 semesters (Clinical)   => Practical is conducted in year two. => 3 years of clinical practical are done starting this year as well.

The promotions are done in the form of campaign, talk, exhibition and play. Dental nurse training is currently available at Dental Training College in Penang. Graduates are certified with diploma of Dental Nursing.   • Doing examination and treatment for children below 17. • Involve in all oral health campaign. • Working with the mobile clinic as well. • Bridging the clinic with the public such as headmasters and head villagers and other local authorities.    Qualifications : Age: 17- 24 years old Gender : Female Qualification: Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) equivalence with credits in Bahasa Melayu, Science, Mathematic and 2 other subjects. DENTAL COSMETIC / BEAUTIFICATION & TREATMENT WHITENING TREATMENT : 

DENTAL COSMETIC / BEAUTIFICATION & TREATMENT WHITENING TREATMENT These treatments are meant to whiten yellow teeth cause by external factors such as smoking, caffeinated drink or food coloring. Internal factor such as naturally yellow, tetracycline antibiotic side effect taken by pregnant mothers, flourosis or a dead tooth also can be treated using this treatment. Although there are may teeth whitening product getting proper treatment by a dentist is the best option Treatment usually lasted around 20 minutes and can last for 1-3 years. To maintain the whiteness, person should avoid drinking caffeinated drinks and other color added food. Patients are also advice to use a special whitening tooth paste. There are several side effects from this treatment such as teeth become too sensitive and it will slowly getting better and sometime teeth become insensitive.

Architects are trained in many areas, from historic preservation to structural engineering. Like doctors and lawyers, architects have completed university programs and lengthy internships. In most parts of the world, architects must pass a series of rigorous exams in order be licensed. In North America, the initials RA designate a registered, or licensed, architect.

In line with Vision 2020, the building construction industry is one of the many aspects of the economy that can make the government's aspirations come true. Architects can play a major role by contributing quality architecture to our built environment. WHAT IS ARCHITECTURE? Architecture is the art and science of building. The word "architure" was derived from the Latin architectura, which itself came from the Greek architekton which meant "master builder". According to William George in his book World Architecture, architecture may be described as "the art of designing and creating beautiful, durable and useful building... Structure which are built with only stability and strength in addition to usefulness in mind may be described as works of engineering. It is only when the idea of building beautifully in conjunction with strength and utility is introduced that the science of building becomes the art of architecture." WHAT ARE THE PROSPECTS OF BEING AN ARCHITECT? Besides practising in the government or private sector, an Architect may also be engaged by a developer, contractor or teach in a University. WHAT DOES AN ARCHITECT DO? An architect is a person trained and qualified to carry out the following tasks: Planning Building Design Landscape Design Urban Design Interior Design Leading and coordinating the input of others in the building team Liaising with approving authorities and certification Supervision during construction  WHO IS MOST SUITED TO BECOME AN ARCHITECT? Beside passing all the examinations and getting the necessary grades to qualify for admittance into an architectural course in a recognised school of architecture, the student ought to have: A love for the arts An appreciation of space and forms An affection for the heritage and tradition A sensitivity in all matters related to the senses  WHERE TO GET THE TRAINING? GUIDANCE FOR ARCHITECTURAL STUDENT WHAT ARE THE ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS? Course work generally consists of lectures, laboratory work, group discussions, seminars and studio work where students work on the drawing board and computers. Practical training forms an integral part of the course. For courses conducted at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and the Universiti Teknologi MARA, a candidate must have obtained at least a Grade Two in the SPM examination with 5 credits of which 2 subjects are Bahasa Malaysia and Mathematics. Please refer to prospectus for more details. Posessing good skills in art and technical drawings is an advantage. For courses conducted at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and the Universiti Malaya (UM) minimum requirement is two principles and two subsidiaries in STPM. A student is required to undergo a matriculation programme conducted by the university before being admitted to the architecture course proper.  HOW TO REGISTER AS AN ARCHITECT? Those who have obtained qualifications recognised by LAM and PAM are exempted from the Part I & II examination. The Part 3 Examination is mandatory for every would-be architect. Upon passing the Part 3 Examination, one may become a member of PAM and register with LAM as an Architect.

GUIDANCE FOR ARCHITECTURAL STUDENT Start logging working experience in logbook which can be purchased at PAM (Logging of working experience should be done periodically) For the purpose of sitting for the Joint LAM-PAM Part 3 Examination, Architectural Graduates must have 2 years working experience which shall commence from the date of registration as a LAM Architectural Graduate. Out of the 2 years working experience, one year must be obtained in Malaysia in an Architect's practice which is registered with LAM.     Candidates must register one year in advance before they are allowed to sit for the Joint LAM-PAM Part 3 Examination in the following year. (Application form is available from LAM. The examination is held once a year and the closing date is 1 March of every year)(Date of registration is also 1 March)     Appear for the Joint LAM-PAM Part 3 Examination (Candidates must pass the Oral Examination before they can sit for the Written Examination)     On passing the Joint LAM-PAM Part 3 Examination you would qualify to apply for Corporate Membership of PAM     Once elected as a Corporate Member of PAM, you would be able to register with LAM, which registration will entitle you to practise as an Architect in Malaysia
