What is Nutrition? : 

What is Nutrition? Nutrition is everything you eat Nutrition explains what exactly is in your food Nutrition tells you about Calories, fats, carbohydrates and proteins, vitamins and minerals Nutrition divides food into categories

Nutritional Glossary : 

Nutritional Glossary Carbohydrates- this is your energy intake and fuel for your body Fats- are important for the development of the brain and nervous system, important part of a healthy diet Protein- organs, muscles and your immune system are made of and need proteins Vitamins and minerals- essential for growth and a healthy immune system

Food Pyramid : 

Food is divided into food groups The food pyramid tells you about how much of each group we can and should eat each day Food Pyramid

Fruits and Vegetables Matter- 5 A Day : 

Fruits and Vegetables Matter- 5 A Day Fruits and Vegetables contain many different Vitamins that are good for your body and health Different fruits have different vitamins- eat a variety either fresh, canned or dried Vegetables have important nutrients Fruits and vegetables are fat free foods and low in calories

Meats and Beans : 

Meats and Beans This food group includes fish, chicken and beef as well as eggs, peas and nuts. Meats and Beans are high in protein Make sure to chose lean meat (meat low in fat)

Grains : 

Grains include bread, cereals, pasta and rice Grains are a great source of carbohydrates Important nutrients include fiber, iron and B- Vitamins Grains

Milk : 

Milk Milk products include yogurts, cheese and milk-based desserts such as ice cream and pudding. All dairy products are good sources of calcium

Nutrition Label : 

Nutrition Label The Nutrition Label tells you (1) the serving size and calories (2) per serving Amount of nutrients (3, 4, 5, 6) and Vitamins (7) It also tells you how much of your daily food intake (8) it adds up to

Physical Activity : 

Physical Activity You should be active for at least 30 – 60 minutes a day This improves your health, self-esteem, strength and helps manage your weight Physical activity uses the calories you take in as energy and balances out your daily intake of food
