Module 7 Standards-based instruction and Assessment Planning for instruction Clear Credential Program California State University Fullerton EDEL/EDSC 537

Instruction and Assessment:

Instruction and Assessment M odule 7 addresses program goals that deal with designing instruction and assessment so that all students can learn Goals Reflect on and apply the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and specific pedagogical skills for subject matter instruction Utilize adopted academic content standards and performance levels for students, curriculum frameworks, and instructional materials in the context of their teaching assignment Use and interpret assessment data from multiple measures for entry level, progress monitoring, and summative assessments of student academic performance to inform instruction . Plan and differentiate instruction using multi-tiered interventions as appropriate based on the assessed individual, academic language and literacy, and diverse learning needs of the full range of learners Plan, assess, and deliver instruction so that all students can learn .

Module 7 Objectives:

Module 7 Objectives For each of the three module goals, participating teachers will… e ngage in individualized learning activities that will add to their understanding of the issues a pply this knowledge to their own teaching practice i dentify 1-2 “artifacts” of their teaching that represent mastery of the goal in practice display these artifacts in their e-portfolio r eflect on how the chosen artifacts demonstrate mastery of the goal

Goals 1 & 2 Planning Instruction:

Goals 1 & 2 Planning Instruction Focus Questions – Use these questions to help you choose your individual learning activities How to the standards inform your instruction? In what ways do you apply the standards in the creation and implementation of lessons for your grade/subject? What routine, model or thought process do you use when you plan a unit and/or lesson? What is the accepted/adopted pedagogy for planning instruction for your grade/subject? What are some instructional strategies and resources that help you target the standards in your lessons? Reflect on and apply the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and specific pedagogical skills for subject matter instruction Utilize adopted academic content standards and performance levels for students, curriculum frameworks, and instructional materials in the context of their teaching assignment Submit ONE set of Artifacts and a Reflection for Goals 1 & 2 Combined

Goals 1 & 2 Planning Instruction:

Goals 1 & 2 Planning Instruction Individualized Learning Activities Explore (again) the standards and frameworks for your grade/subject (sometimes we need a refresher) California Department of Education Content Standards Common Core State Standards View videos on how to implement the common core Common Core Implementation Video Series Examine models of instructional design Planning for Effective Instruction Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Search the web for common c ore strategies for your grade/subject Potential Artifacts Provide a lesson plan that demonstrates use of standards-based instruction Create an annotated list of common c ore strategies Display pictures of common core lessons you have implemented Upload a collection of videos that shows instructional strategies that you plan to use in future lessons. Create a mindmap /graphic organizer that represents the curriculum framework and/or standards for your grade/subject Reflect on and apply the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and specific pedagogical skills for subject matter instruction Utilize adopted academic content standards and performance levels for students, curriculum frameworks, and instructional materials in the context of their teaching assignment Submit ONE set of Artifacts and a Reflection for Goals 1 & 2 Combined

Goal 3 Assessment:

Goal 3 Assessment Focus Questions – Use these questions to help you choose your individual learning activities What types of assessments are appropriate for the students and the grade/subject I teach? What types of assessments can I use for entry-level, progress monitoring and summative assessments? How should I use multiple assessments to inform my instruction? How can I involve my students in their own assessment of learning? What tools are available to build assessment rubrics and scoring guides? Use and interpret assessment data from multiple measures for entry level, progress monitoring, and summative assessments of student academic performance to inform instruction.

Goal 3 assessment:

Goal 3 assessment Individualized Learning Activities Explore Assessment Strategies Simple Assessment Strategies You Can Use Everyday Learn about Assessment Plans Designing an Assessment Plan Review Rubric Building Tools The 5 Best Free Rubric Making Tools for Teachers Potential Artifacts Create an annotated list of entry-level, formative, and/or summative assessments Provide an assessment you use and explain how you use it to inform instruction Display an assessment plan for one of your instructional units/lessons Compile a collection of videos that demonstrate formative assessment strategies Take a picture showing completed assessments with feedback Use and interpret assessment data from multiple measures for entry level, progress monitoring, and summative assessments of student academic performance to inform instruction.

Goals 4 & 7 Differentiated Instruction:

Goals 4 & 7 Differentiated Instruction Focus Questions – Use these questions to help you choose your individual learning activities What are some strategies to differentiate instruction so that all students can learn ? What types of interventions are effective for struggling learners ? What types of interventions are effective for advanced learners? How can I group/manage students to facilitate differentiated instruction? How can I differentiate assessments to meet the learning needs of my students ? Plan and differentiate instruction using multi-tiered interventions as appropriate based on the assessed individual, academic language and literacy, and diverse learning needs of the full range of learners Plan, assess, and deliver instruction so that all students can learn. Submit ONE set of Artifacts and a Reflection for Goals 4 & 7 Combined

Goals 4 & 7 Differentiated Instruction:

Goals 4 & 7 Differentiated Instruction Individualized Learning Activities Explore intervention models Response to Intervention - RTI Read blogs/articles on how to effectively differentiate instruction Differentiated Instruction View Videos on Differentiation Differentiation Central Potential Artifacts Share a lesson plan that differentiates instruction Share a lesson plan that differentiates assessment Create an annotated list of differentiation techniques Provide pictures of student work that demonstrates differentiation Develop a Response to Intervention plan Create a schematic of how groups/activities/centers might be designed for a differentiated lesson Plan and differentiate instruction using multi-tiered interventions as appropriate based on the assessed individual, academic language and literacy, and diverse learning needs of the full range of learners Plan, assess, and deliver instruction so that all students can learn. Submit ONE set of Artifacts and a Reflection for Goals 4 & 7 Combined
