This is the first class of ESL Digital Storytelling at MiraCosta College. What we did … : What we did … Discovered the definition of “digital story” Explored and critiqued online digital stories Examined oral story vs. written story vs. digital story (oral narrative with accompanying audio and images) And … : And … Discussed and practiced (through mini writing/presentation and tech assignments) How to use concrete words to make stories vivid and descriptive How to find synonyms How to recognize and use figures of speech (metaphors, similes, personification) to convey an idea And … : And … How music and sound effects can augment a story How using one’s voice can enhance a story (rhythm, pacing, stress, intonation, volume, silence) How a picture can tell a story How to use images and colors to symbolize abstract ideas, feelings, moods All the while … : All the while … Practiced language skills Listening Conversation Pronunciation Reading Writing Grammar Last: Our own digital stories : Last: Our own digital stories The process: Chose topic Wrote script Practiced read-alouds; gave and received feedback Edited/revised script Created storyboard More on the process… : More on the process… Recorded voices in Audacity Edited and mixed soundtrack (voice with sound effects, music) More on the process… : More on the process… Chose and edited images More on the process … : More on the process … Made “movie” on Movie Maker Added effects, transitions, titles, credits Synchronized images with soundtrack And … Finished Movies! : Finished Movies!
