Overview of type II Diabetes:

Overview of type II Diabetes Diabetes is a disease that affects how the body uses glucose, a sugar that is the body's main energy source. With Type 2 diabetes, the pancreas usually produces some insulin. But either the amount produced is not enough for the body's needs, or the body's cells are resistant to it. Approximately, 26 million Americans have been diagnosed with type II diabetes.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objectives The patient will be able to define the basic disease process of Type II diabetes. The patient will be able to verbalize 3 symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. The patient will be able to verbalize what to do for hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. The patient will be able to verbalize a healthy glucose and hemoglobin A1C range. The patient will be able to verbalize their treatment plan for diabetic management.

Learning Goals:

Learning Goals The patient will be able to demonstrate drawing up insulin. The patient will be able to demonstrate self-monitoring of blood glucose using a blood glucose monitor. The patient will be able to list an appropriate meal serving for proper management of diabetes. The patient will be able to list appropriate ways to cope with a new diagnosis of diabetes type II.

Steps to giving insulin:

Steps to giving insulin Clean the insulin vial and draw up the desired amount of insulin. Clean the skin with alcohol where you will inject the insulin. Grab a fold of your skin . Insert the needle straight into your skin . Push down on the plunger to inject the insulin. Pull out the needle. Throw away the used insulin syringe in a sharps container.
