INTRODUCTION : 

PLC is a solid state device or industrial computer that performs discrete logic in factory environment. It was originally developed to replace mechanical timers,counters,relays etc. PLC’s are used successfully to execute complicated control functions in the plant. Instruction is programmed by the user in the plc memory then program is executed. PLC operates the system according to the correct operating specifications. PLC operation is a sequential process. PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES : 

Programming languages used to program a plc-   LADDER DIAGRAM- Ladder logic is the most commonly used PLC programming language. Traditional logic is a graphical programming language initially programmed with simple contacts that simulated the opening and closing of relays. Ladder logic programming has been expanded to include such functions as counters,timers ,shift registers and math operations. PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES

6.2Generally Used Instructions & symbol For PLC Programming   Input Instruction --[ ]-- This Instruction is Called NORMALLY OPEN i.e.; If a NO switch is actuated then only this instruction will be true. If a NC switch is actuated then this instruction will not be true and hence output will not be generated.   --[\]-- This Instruction is Called NORMALLY CLOSED i.e.; If a NC switch is actuated then only this instruction will be true. If a NO switch is actuated then this instruction will not be true and hence output will not be generated. SYMBOL FOR PLC

OUTPUT INSTRUCTION : 

--( )-- This Instruction Shows the States of Output. i.e.; If any instruction either NO or NC is true then output will be high. Due to high output a 24 volt signal is generated from PLC processor. OUTPUT INSTRUCTION

Program of AND Gate : 

Program of AND Gate Output is high only when both the inputs are high.

Program for OR Gate : 

Program for OR Gate This gate gives the output when at least one of its input is high.

DOL STARTER DOL (Direct Online Starter) is a switching circuit used to run motors. Its advantage over normal switch is that whenever supply is cut than on resuming we will need to press the start button again to run the motor. Therefore the motor can be saved from sudden increase in current on resumption of supply .

SINGLE SLIDE USING TWO LIMIT SWITCHES By using this program when ever slide will be at home position 1 limit switch and start button is pressed it will go in forward direction and as soon it will touch the home position 2 limit switch it automatically reversed back to home position 1 .

Reliable in operation. Flexibility in programming and reprogramming in the plant. Online/offline modifications. Cost effective for controlling complex systems. Small physical size, shorter project time. Speed of operation. Ability to communicate with computer systems in the plant. Ease of maintenance /troubleshooting. Documentation. Security. ADVANTAGES OF PLC’S:
