His birth: : His birth: The Handel family Georg Dorothea < It’s a boy!> George Frideric <Music! It didn’t really happen that way. Handel was born Feb. 23rd, 1685, in Halle. He actually was born same day and year as Bach, just 50 miles away. His dad(Georg) wanted little George to be a lawyer, so he prevented poor George from playing any instruments That plan his dad made didn’t work, as you will see on the next slide. How his dad’s plan didn’t work. : How his dad’s plan didn’t work. Young George managed to go around his dad’s order by playing a clavichord in the attic. Luckily, it didn’t have to be a secret when his dad died when George was 12. George Frideric >Hehehe… *music* *Music* Where’s that boy?!> Early adulthood : Early adulthood When George was 18, he went over to Hamburg and got a job as a violinist. *screech* <Am I playing this right? *screech* And he did quite a nice job, managing to become acquainted with multiple people, such as Prince Ferdinando De’ Medici. Handel De’ Medici <Nice to meet ya.> Opera : Opera Handel simply adored opera, and began working with another composer, Earl of Carnarvon. There Handel made many anthems, and the Earl was pleased. Handel <Hm… what rhymes with orange? Oh! Door-hinge! *scribbles* He didn’t stay with opera too long. Oratorio : Oratorio It wasn’t a huge mess when Handel changed, because he was already making an opera/oratorio. It was quite subtle when he made the change to oratorios. Handel <Sssh…I’m making my opera an oratorio. Don’t tell anyone. He retired, but six weeks later he was back playing the organ. Before and…. Six weeks later. <Augh! *music* Death(slide No. 2) : Death(slide No. 2) He suffered another stroke in 1743, but that didn’t hold out on him too long either. He quickly began producing many works, which made him very famous. Handel Doctor >Serious, doc, I’m fine! >*sigh* Death(Slide No.3) : Death(Slide No.3) Handel worked up until he died April 14th, 1759.
