Dalhousie[32027’N, 76031’E] A Brief History: At the western foot of main Dhauladhar ridge and built upon and around 5 hills covered with a thick growth of Oak, conifers and a large variety of other trees and shrubs, Dalhousie (2050m) is named after former Viceroy, Lord Dalhousie. The first settlers were members of his staff and over a period of time it gained importance as a cantonment with the influx of British Army personnel escaping from scorching heat of the plains. Now it is a popular hill resort. Dalhousie is only hill station which is still not crowded and able to maintain its Himalayan Beauty in its fullest! Access is from Pathankot railhead by bus or taxi, a journey of 80 km. It is a convenient and pleasant point for starting treks into the Chamba valley and beyond.
