How do you sift through the pitches, claims and pizzazz and make sure you figure out what’s really important? Elements of an Argument : Elements of an Argument An argument is a claim supported by reasons and evidence Well stated arguments appeal to logic NOT Emotions! A strong argument: : A strong argument: Presents a claim, or writer’s position on a problem or a issue Provides Support Anticipates what people with opposing viewpoints might say and counters their objections Claim : Claim The claim may be stated directly- Vitamins are good for you! Indirectly- Take your vitamins, feel the difference! Either way the claim appears in the introduction, conclusion or title of the argument Support : Support Use facts, statistics, examples and quotations Check out the elements ~ : Check out the elements ~ ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Want a difference? Volunteer! Public service builds a stronger community.
