Langston Hughes’ Life Langston lived with a poor but prominent grandmother.
His mother remarried.
She moved from place to place with her new husband.
His father wanted him to be an engineer.
Langston started to write early in his life.
“I will be proud to tell my kids I chipped in, however little” :
“I will be proud to tell my kids I chipped in, however little” Hughes wanted to make his work matter.
He wrote pieces on African American lives.
He embraced his history.
His work was without hate toward his white counterparts.

The Power of Poetry The night is beautiful,
So the faces of my people.
The stars are beautiful,
So the eyes of my people
Beautiful, also, is the sun.
Beautiful, also, are the souls of my people.
Hughes worked many jobs until he published his poems like the one above.
All he wanted was to make a difference in his small part of the World and beyond.
