This photo was taken from the top of St. Peter's church and looks out over the old section of Riga.

The statue of Roland, the favorite nephew of Charlemagne is located at the centre of the town hall square in Riga. Roland died in the famous battle of Roncevaux pass in 778 in the pyrenees in the border between France and Spain! Roland is now a symbol of freedom and justice. Roland de Roncevaux

An impressive statue with 3 red Latvian riflemen. They fought in the Russian army during WW1. Bedind is the occupation museum, when Latvia was occupied by the Soviet Union.

Riga : european capital of Art Nouveau? Riga has the largest concentration of Art Nouveau buildings in Europe. This photo show a detail of a building erected in 1903 by the Russian architect Michael Eisenstein. If you like "Art Nouveau", Brussels or Nancy are also worth a visit.

Art Nouveau again! The entrance of this building was designed by a Latvian architect called Konstantins Pekšens in 1903 and decorated with a dragon on each side.

Latvian coast: The beach around Jurmala in Latvia. You can enjoy 33 km of sandy beach and a large pine tree forest.

Jurmala’s turtle Jurmala is a sucession of sea side resort towns only 30 km away from Riga. One of its famous sight is this turtle, a statue dating from 1995. Houses in Jurmala are very nice and all different and built under pine trees. Jurmala means "beach" or "seaside" in Latvian.

Orthodox cathedral – Riga: The nativity cathedrale was transformed into a planetarium between 1960 and 1991. It was then restored when Latvia obtained its independance in 1991.
