Chris Purdie and Marc Bradley Johnson are two artists, using two cubes, over two hundred speakers, and twelve doors to create large, interactive sculptures in Admission. "This exhibit will really engage people and highlight the art of sound and motion." Purdie's sculpture is a six-foot cube constructed by stacking over two hundred functioning speakers to represent thought or voice. Johnson's sculpture is a seven-foot cube constructed of twelve functioning doors to demonstrate access to possibilities or options. The audience is invited to interact with these sculptures by listening to the speakers and by walking in and out of the doors. "It's fun, it's entertaining, but it also has a tie to art history and philosophy," says Purdie. "This is art that you actually get to touch and be a part of," says Johnson. The Rio Gallery is located in the historic Rio Grande Depot at 300 South 455 West in Salt Lake City. Gallery hours are 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
