King Faisal Specialist Hospital The Department of Oncology consists of • Adult Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) • Medical Oncology • Radiation Oncology • Palliative Care Medicine The Oncology Data Unit provides support for research projects and serves as a hospital base for cancer and bone marrow transplant registry. In October 2000, the former Section of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology became a Department in its own right to provide services both at King Fahad National Centre for Children’s Cancer and Research (KFNCCC&R) and KFSH&RC for children with cancer and hematological disorders.

King Faisal Specialist Hospital The Department of Cardiovascular Diseases consists of 4 clinical sections: • Cardiac Surgery • Cardiac Intensive Care • Pediatric Cardiology and • Adult Cardiology Support sections include the Perfusion Team, Clinical Research Unit, Patient Coordination and secretarial staff. The Department directly manages the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Non-Invasive Cardiology Lab, Cardiac Surgery ICU, Cardiac Operating Room, Coronary Care Unit, Cardiovascular Telemetry Unit, and Medical Cardiology Unit. An Animal Lab located in the Research Centre is dedicated to cardiovascular research.

The Department supports its own residency program, fellowship programs, technologist training program, and is actively engaged in clinical research.

Daily census ranged from 90 to 200 patients. 67% Adults and 33% Pediatrics 70% established tertiary care patients, 14% are employees and dependents, 11% VIP’s and 6% are new patients. 16 Emergency Medicine Consultants, 5 Pediatric Emergency Medicine Consultants and 1 Resident. The Nursing staff is comprised of 40 Staff Nurses, a Nurse Clinician and a Head Nurse.

King Faisal Specialist Hospital The Department of Anesthesiology consists of 36 consultants together with the Anesthesia Auxiliary support staff. The Department is divided into sections of general, cardiovascular, pediatric and obstetric anesthesia, as well as a Pain Service. Anesthesia is provided not only in the operating rooms of KFSH&RC but also in numerous remote locations such as the radiology suite and the labour floor.

King Faisal Specialist Hospital Family Medicine is responsible for the healthcare needs of the Hospital’s 18,000 employees and eligible dependents. It provides an efficient and caring primary care facility. Health care is total and involves a dedicated medical and nursing team. However, the rising patient population due to the increase in dependents continues to put an enormous strain on the Family Medicine resources. This results in numerous clinic visits, many investigative procedures, expensive medications and referrals. Additionally, Family Medicine has a significant space problem due to the growing numbers, which affects the smooth running of the clinic.

King Faisal Specialist Hospital Ambulatory Care Services works primarily through coordination and facilitation of services to outpatients. The Medical Director Ambulatory Care Services is responsible for oversight of any matter related to the quality of patient care in the ambulatory setting (outpatient), the approval of new clinics, clinic changes and rescheduling of patients.

A matrix relationship exists between Clinical Services Division and various medical departments. Thirteen (13) of the Clinical Services departments report concurrently to respective Medical Chairmen for the medical and technical aspects of their services, and to Clinical Services for administrative aspects.

King Faisal Specialist Hospital Established in August 1995, HOBA has become a mechanism for evaluating the needs of the participating regional hospitals, identifying the available resources and services of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC), and establishing an infrastructure, through clinic visits and education of the participating Regional Hospitals, in order to standardize medical care delivery. The HOBA Program is based on 3 major components: (1) Health Outreach Program (2) e-Health Centre (3) Business Program. Health Outreach & Business Affairs

Health Outreach Program 1- Regional Affairs: Established a network between KFSH and some 18 major referral hospitals Over the past three years, more than 1900 visits by consultants from KFSH & RC have taken place, to hold clinics, evaluate services, or perform technical procedures. More than 150 surgical procedures were performed at regional hospitals by KFSH & RC staff. 2- National Programs: A major objective of the mission of the Health Outreach Program is to promote the standardized management of certain tertiary care health problems common to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Some 17 national programs have been established to achieve this objective. 3- Continuing Professional Education and Training: The Continuing Professional Education and Training Section of the Health Outreach Program provides continuing education programs to physicians, nurses and allied healthcare providers throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Some 130 workshops and symposia have reached in excess of 6000 health professionals from 10 regions around the Kingdom.

E-Health Centre 1 -Second Opinion Consultations: The E-Health Centre has continued to support second opinion consultation with several major North American healthcare institutions. 2 -Teleradiology: Teleradiology services, the first phase of the Telemedicine Network. Four regions ere connected for teleradiology supply, namely: Eastern Province, Najran, Madinah and Qassim. Most radiology investigations can now be done at local hospitals and forwarded to KFSH & RC for professional interpretation. 3 -Tele-Education: The E-Health Centre has been very active with different components of CME: lectures, seminars and courses broadcast from several North American Institutions with an average of one event every ten days. .
