William Shakespeare :William Shakespeare Kent Barin

Shakespeare's Family :Shakespeare's Family William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, on April 23, 1564. His father, John Shakespeare, was a leather merchant. His mother, Mary Arden, was a local heiress. William was born the third of eight children, three of whom died in childhood.

Shakespeare's Education :Shakespeare's Education There are many theories about Williams childhood education. It is said that Shakespeare attended a free grammar school in Stratford. Although there is no solid evidence his knowledge of Greek and Latin would support this theory. Shakespeare, it is said, did not attend any university schooling. This brings many accusations towards the claim of his later works.

The Globe Theater :The Globe Theater Shakespeare's company erected the storied Globe Theater circa 1598 in London's Bankside district. It was one of four major theaters in the area, along with the Swan, the Rose, and the Hope. The sketch to the left was created by a Dutch student by the name of Johannes de Witt who attended a play in 1596. This is the only sketch of what the Theater looked like in its early days. In 1613, the original Globe Theater burned to the ground when a cannon shot during a performance of Henry VIII ignited the thatched roof of the gallery. The company completed a new Globe on the foundations of its predecessor before Shakespeare's death. It continued operating until 1642, when the Puritans closed it down, along with all other theaters.

The Elizabethan Age :The Elizabethan Age When Queen Elizabeth I came into power she established England as the leading naval and commercial power of the Western world. England finalized its Western power with the defeat of the Spanish Armada, along with the establishment of The Church Of England which Elizabeth's father failed to finish. In the time of Elizabeth's reign London was the heart of England's commerce. Its dramatists and poets were among the worlds literary artists of the day. In this hectic time, Shakespeare lived and wrote his famous plays and poems.
