The Proposal :The Proposal They use a swiping of the different pictures to introduce the black screen and logo of the production company. There is an upbeat music playing in the background which is a guitar. This is playing over all of the scenes and is lowered when the actors are talking however this music changes to drums when the couple realise they have to get married in order for her to stay. It then begins to play a song when they go to see his parents. At the beginning of the trailer the typical form is an American/ British age restriction warning screen as it does in every trailer I have analysed. In this trailer it is an American age restriction screen with white writing and a green background. The next shot is interesting as it signifies that he must work in an office environment there is someone typing on a white background in the bottom right of the screen “this is Andrew” in a computerised font. This is telling the story through the typing. When the “coming soon” comes up it is on a background of two different shades of blue. This shows a contrast between the two people that are getting married.
Knocked Up :Knocked Up The contrast is made clear throughout especially after the “one night stand” when she is standing there in her work clothes looking very professional and he is laying in bed naked and snorting. The general form of a film is the Age restriction warning notice and then the production company. This films follows this form with the Green American age restriction notice along with a black background with Universal pictures logo writing. The white background with red block writing which is typical for a romantic comedy as the red writing creates a sense of romance. The white background again covers an important scene as she is ringing him to let him know that she needs to see him. The white background with red writing is clear throughout and puts the story into different sections. This is something that I would considering using during my trailer. There is a funny shot towards the end of the trailer when he is playing fetch with her sisters children this shows that he has no idea what he is doing with children. Also he is standing in the playhouse almost hiding from the children.
The Break up :The Break up The form of this trailer is a bit different to that of the other trailers I have watched. There is still the green age restriction screen but it doesn’t go straight into the production company titles. Instead it has a fade to a shot of a high rise building with voices over this shot. Following this the universal pictures production company comes up on a black background. It then goes on to a book style transition between different parts of their relationship and then the book comes to an end as they argue. This is almost like a mini trailer within the trailer. This is an interesting transition and I would like to use it in my film. There is a high contrast between the two characters with him sitting on the kitchen side in a t-shirt and boxers an ice bag on his neck and cotton wool up his nose, and her standing by the doorway hair and make-up done and dressed for work. The title of the film “The Break Up” come onto a black background the word “break” in a light blue while the rest is in white. This shows the difference between the two characters hence why they broke up. It also doesn’t follow the conventions of a generic teaser trailer as it gives an actual date instead of “coming soon”.
He’s Just Not That Into You :He’s Just Not That Into You The music starts with the production company logo whereas it normally starts when it fades into the first shot. The mans voice starts even before the shot comes up. The beat of the music changes to lower keys as the trailer goes on and the mood changes in the trailer to a sadder side. The black background with white writing comes up with the title of the film “He’s Just Not That Into You” however, in this sentence the word “Not” is in green for emphasise. The name of the actor/actress then appears in each shot of them in the bottom right side of the screen. They also use a hook to get the audiences in by placing “Based on the best selling book” in the trailer this attracts people who enjoyed the book to go and see the film. It follows the generic convention of a teaser trailer by not giving a precise date instead it comes up “This Fall” this is the usual sign of a teaser trailer.
Ghosts of Girlfriends Ghost :Ghosts of Girlfriends Ghost The music is very up beat at the beginning of the trailer but soon changes when an evil laugh appears and the tone of the music is lowered to a slightly creepier music whilst still staying light. There are strips of writing throughout the trailer to tell the story the font used is a typical typing font. The end of the writing is blue with a different font to make it stand out. The black screen with three different moving images of his girlfriends who he is letting down with a voice over. The voice over distracts us away from what is happening in the film as it explains the story. This also flashes back to his child hood. This is what I would like to include in my production so seeing it done in this really helped with the idea. Coming Soon
The Ugly Truth :The Ugly Truth The sudden burst of music at the beginning draws your attention to it with a picture wiping onto the screen surrounded by a black frame this sets the scene for the rest of the movie. The music is very up beat but turns quite flirtatious when she is being taught by the guy how to flirt. In the middle of the trailer Columbia pictures and Lakeshore entertainment production titles comes up this is not generic of a trailer. But I would like to try this in my trailer to see how it would look. The moving pictures of the actors with their names underneath was a very good way of getting the actors/actresses names into the trailer. There is an establishing shot of a bridge and them it has a straight cut to them sitting in the car with a shot reverse shot. Coming Soon
Couples Retreat :Couples Retreat The music starts of as very upbeat as the idea of going away together seems exciting but then when they arrive everything doesn’t seem as good and the music lowers key and becomes very moody. The titles are on a blue background which looks quite like a pool this links with the theme of the trailer with relaxation. An interesting shot is one with them all in the sea in canoes in the pouring rain it is a high angle shot and it means that you can really see everything that is going on. There are a lot of location shots during this trailer such as the establish shot of the boat travelling through the ocean and the establishing shot over the mountains. There is also the close up of the itinerary and their expressions when they realise they have to be up at 6 am. This is a very interesting shot as this is not what they appear to have “signed up for”. Coming Soon
Its Complicated :Its Complicated “This Christmas” Close up of her ex husband hiding in the bushes and spying on her with the new architect. This shows that he is very insecure and desperately wants her back. White background with black writing of the word Jane is and then several different words that flick through and then it pauses on divorced it also does it for her ex husband and ends on Jane’s ex and it does it on the architect and it pauses on Jane’s architect. High angle shot of couple together they look vulnerable together but also as though they are having fun together and are very comfortable. light up beat music as she appears to be moving on with her life after the break up of her marriage. Which then changes to “history repeating” to match the mood of her and her ex-husband rekindling the flame.
Confessions of a Shopaholic :Confessions of a Shopaholic This February The white screen with gold writing “based on a best selling novel” draws people in who have read the book and would now want to see the movie. The extreme close up used when she is running her fingers across all the jumpers shows what kind of person she is she is clearly obsessed with buying clothes and bags. There is a close up of a women exchanging a credit card with the cashier while a young girl watches on amazed by this. There is a voice over telling the story of the little girl and then as the shot change to see a grown up walking down the street the character tells us what she is wearing and where it is from almost like a fashion magazine would. There is a very young magical music with the production company titles but this changes as we see the women the story is all about and a more grown up heavy beat song plays in the background.
New in Town :New in Town There is a very heavy beat to the music in the beginning of the trailer which turns very light as the trailer continues and she appears to fall in love with someone this would be something I would use in my trailer to set the mood of the trailer. The low shot of red shoes as she marches through an office shows power and the colour red is very strong the beat of her walking matches that of the music. A very funny shot during the trailer is the close up of her face just after she is warned about how cold it is outside and she goes outside and is shocked by how cold it really is. This does not follow the generic form of a teaser trailer as it gives a specific date of January 30th.
500 days of Summer :500 days of Summer Split screen of one extreme close up of an eye then black then the other side of the screen split screen of an eye and the same with the bodies. This is a very unique shot and would be a good shot to consider using during my trailer. The voice over tells us the story of the two children and how they grew up and what they believe in. There is an interesting shot which I have also used in my shot list of the two hands together on the bench this is a close. This is also interesting as the voice over goes against the shot by saying “this is not a love story”. They use the hook of it being the “official selection for sundance festival” this draws people into watch the film if they know it has been chosen for that. Another interesting shot which would be hard for me to include within my production is the sketch of the ton and him walking through it. Coming Soon
New York, I love you :New York, I love you This Fall By using the strips saying “from the producer of...” and “directed by....” the trailer is hoping to appeal to people who have watched films made by these people before and enjoyed them. It represents many different stereotypical groups from elderly to the young and everything in between which means that the film can relate to lots of different people so isn’t restricted by it’s audience. Behind the strip of writing that come up to explain the storyline are trains flying past on there journey The interesting shots of the train station with people rushing around almost gives the sense of time standing still for that one person as they watch everyone run around. The wide shot at the very beginning of the trailer set the scene for the trailer the skyline of the city gives a sense that it could be about love
Wild Child :Wild Child Coming Soon There are flashing images of what her life is like and the split screen three ways to show different things that she can do right now in my trailer I am going to use this split screen idea. When they are all taking pictures of each other with their phones all the flashing cameras make it appear like there are paparazzi taking pictures of them and the fade to white really makes it look like a camera flash. The purple background with the silver glitz writing makes the titles appear to be very glamorous and add yet another sign of what the lead character is like.
I love you Beth Cooper :I love you Beth Cooper The website seems to be a vital detail in the generic form of a trailer at the end with when the trailer is coming out. The fast car chases and races throughout the trailer along with the fast upbeat music make the whole trailer seem very fast. The mise-en-scene in this trailer is what makes it so great. The use of the graduation costumes with the hats and the set around them as he makes his speech to the pupils. I hope to use this great mise-en—scene in my film so people know exactly what is happening. Coming Soon
Marley And Me :Marley And Me Coming Soon The establishing wide shot of the bridge that fades into them sitting in the car is very romantic and the back drop is very unique. The amount of location shots during this trailer make it really interesting and I would like to use shots such as this in my trailer. It is also from a best international seller book which is a hook to draw people in. The close up on the necklace in the dogs mouth when he pinches it is a good shot matched with the wild west fight music works really well.
