Fecal Direct Smear Procedure : 

Fecal Direct Smear Procedure Small amount of feces on glass slide Mix with drop of saline Place cover slip on mixtures Observe under microscope Feces with drop of saline Feces and Saline Mixture

Fecal Float Advantages Sensitive Most ova and oocytes identified Disadvantages More complex Time consuming

Float Procedure : 

Float Procedure Take sample of feces with insert Place in vial with solution Mix thoroughly Step 1 Step 2 Step 3

Float Procedure Continued : 

Float Procedure Continued Fill vial with more solution until meniscus forms Place cover slip on meniscus Wait 10 -15 minutes Remove cover slip and observe with microscope Step 4 Step 5 Step 7 10-15 minutes Wait

Gross Examination : 

Gross Examination Things to consider Color and consistency Mucus Blood Undigested food All will lead to a proper and accurate diagnoses to the problem
