SMART board: Interactive Whiteboard Presented by: Karen De Leon Azusa Pacific University EDCO 549 Career Dev.Theories/Techniques Instructor: Dr. Michael Block January 2012 TECHNOLOGY PRESENTATION

Description:

Description An interactive whiteboard (SMART Board) provides touch control of computer applications. These enhance the experience in the classroom by showing anything that can be on a computer screen. This not only aids in visual learning, but it is interactive so that the students can draw, write, or manipulate images on the interactive whiteboard. The SMART board could be used daily in classroom, offices and businesses settings. In the classroom however, the SMART Board does not give each student the opportunity to interact/participate actively but it also helps them expand their ideas with more visualization on academic subjects (geometry, history, visual arts, etc).

Introduction to Touch Control:

Introduction to Touch Control The SMART Board interactive whiteboard was the first interactive whiteboard to provide touch control of computer applications and the ability to write over standard Microsoft Windows applications. Connected to an LCD panel and a computer, the SMART Board interactive whiteboard brought interactive technology to classrooms, meeting rooms and boardrooms.

SMART Board activities:

SMART Board activities The interactive SMART boards is a technology that facilitates high school students to actively participate inside the classroom. Students with special needs are also benefited by the advancement of this SMART Board technology. The colored markers on the left can be used to write on the LCD panel during lessons and/or activities. The SMART Board is also a great tool to bringing lecture slides alive! The student serves as the “mouse”, therefore he/she is capable of manipulating (drag) any object on the LCD panel.

The SMART Board at Use:

The SMART Board at Use The SMART Board does not replace the teacher, but only enhances his/her ability to deliver the curriculum. It makes the curriculum more accessible to students. It also comes with its own software: SMART notebook Version 10. This software provides a range of tools that enhances the learning plans and allows for students to interact inside the classroom. The software comes with its own exclusive lesson activity kit, interactive multimedia, SMART market place in where the teacher can purchase various lessons and activities and a SMART exchange, in where the teacher can exchange lessons/ideas/activities from other teachers that use the SMART board.

SMART Board in the future:

SMART Board in the future “ When we think of the future, we envision classrooms and meeting rooms where images, applications and information are at everyone's fingertips. We envision students around the world experiencing the rewards of learning, whether they learn best by seeing, hearing or doing. We envision teams collaborating and developing ideas on SMART Board interactive whiteboards, making decisions quickly and communicating with other teams across distances as if everyone was in the same room.” -SMART Board Company
