Hawkins and Boyles inspirations : Hawkins and Boyles inspirations And a Pentax opera glasses and a telescoping pair of eyeglasses in a thin metal case whose pictures we couldn’t find… RAZOR Vs VISOR : RAZOR Vs VISOR Palm V had the Razor PDA in the market while… Handspring was planning for VISOR VISOR : VISOR Had to be better than already existing products. Should have a lower price than the rest which meant having a larger customer base and a greater demand. Should feature a lot more technological advancements like GPRS, cardiac monitor, etc… Should be aesthetically appealing. Should get its work done in IDEO without a lot of publicity. Alternative 1 : Alternative 1 Boyle and Kelly ask for time… Advantages : They deliver the “killer” product. The product is better in each and every sense. The product will have greater acceptance and there will hardly be a chance for another company to come up with a better concept in near future. The team can give its best shot and further add more to the product than demanded by Handspring Disadvantages… : Disadvantages… IDEOs fierce working style might get an image of being overrated. Someone else might come up with a new product meanwhile and totally capture the market. Alternative 2 : Alternative 2 2 They go ahead and finish the task… Advantages They retain their image of being on time and stick to the clients demand. They make a product that’s never been this great and multifaceted during a season promising high sales They might attract 3Com or any other company as a future client for a slimmer and better looking Visor successor. Disadvantages : Disadvantages They have to stick to the bulky design. People might just not accept a stodgy product as a Christmas present. There will a successor very soon in the market and takeover the sales. They are not just compromising with the design they are compromising with “quality” which is the trademark of IDEO. If the product fails its IDEOs fault but not lack of time. Alternative 3 : Alternative 3 Release the advertisements of Visor as envisioned by Boyle during Christmas saying book your limited edition Visor now… maybe offer a discount if booked earlier mentioning its brought down from 300$ to 150$ as per the decided price. They can have a prototype ready for Handspring to approve and then work on the internal details of enabling various other features as decided. Advantages : Advantages They capture the Christmas market. They deliver the best, keeping their own market value and that of the product intact. There cannot be a better version in the near future. It is aesthetically approved and makes the female clientele happy. Has the best ever features. And IDEO has its reputation guarded. Disadvantages : Disadvantages There can be changes in the product which come after testing. It’s a calculated risk but since they already have promised they have to give more than what was demanded by the client. They might not be able to capture all that of christmas market as it’s a product yet to be available. And as a group we approve of the Alternative “3” : And as a group we approve of the Alternative “3” Even if the product changes internally they still deliver the same product that is sited by the customers in the advertisement. Whatever the changes the product just gets better. There are high chances of them being a hit during christmas as waiting for a great product of value is not an issue for a customer who desires quality. The client is happy and so is the end customer. There's no scope for anyone else to barge into the competition.
