Carmella is at Rose Animal Clinic today to get her teeth cleaned.:

Her family has noticed that she has some tartar on her teeth and bad breath. Tartar is caused by plaque forming on the teeth and then hardening into tartar. Carmella is at Rose Animal Clinic today to get her teeth cleaned.

Once Carmella is checked in, she gets a physical exam from the doctor. Dr. Westhoff looks her over and takes a preliminary look at her teeth. Tartar and gingivitis are noted on the initial exam, but no serious problems are visible.:

Carmella’s family was a bit worried about the anesthesia, but Dr. Westhoff reassured them that complications are rare. To minimize risks, Carmella will receive modern gas anesthesia and be monitored closely while she is anesthetized. :

She probes around each tooth to see if there is damage under the gum line that is not visible on a regular exam. Once Carmella is anesthetized, Dr. Westhoff does a complete oral exam. In addition to checking the teeth, she also checks the rest of the mouth for lumps and other issues.

After cleaning and polishing… A fluoride foam is applied to the teeth to strengthen the enamel and slow plaque reforming. After the fluoride, a wax sealant is applied to the teeth. When the sealant is maintained at home it can also help keep plaque from sticking as much.
