Confusion for some readers over open access, copyright and quality :

Confusion for some readers over open access, copyright and quality Gold versus Green OA Preprint services/archives, institutional repositories, authors’ personal repositories, services such as ResearchGate So-called “predatory journals”, “deceptive” publishing, vanity publishing, hijacked journal titles Google web search picking up pirated copies of articles, Sci -Hub News and social media reports 01/06/2018 5

Think, check & submit http://thinkchecksubmit.org/check/ :

Think, check & submit http://thinkchecksubmit.org/check/ Not all of the following will guarantee the quality of the journal Do you know the journal? Can you easily identify and contact the publisher? [Beware “hijacked” titles on different websites] Do you recognise the editorial board? Do the editorial board members mention the journal on their personal pages? [Do they even know they are an editor?!] Is the publisher a member of a recognized industry initiative? Do they belong to the  Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)  ? If the journal is open access, is it listed in the  Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)  ? [Suspect entries should have been removed but some may still be lurking in the list] If the journal is open access, does the publisher belong to the  Open Access Scholarly Publishers’ Association (OASPA)  ? 01/06/2018 6

Directory of Open Access Journals https://doaj.org/ :

Directory of Open Access Journals https://doaj.org/ 11,531 open access journals, 8340 searchable at article level, 127 countries Journals already in the directory have had to submit new applications 2017 report ( https://blog.doaj.org/2018/01/05/publishers-report-2017-in-summary/ ) - received 6359 reapplications - accepted 4031 removed 2860 for failure to resubmit Check the News section https://doaj.org/news for updates 01/06/2018 7
