CASTING SIMULATION:

SUBMITTED BY: PRAFFUL KUMAR SINHA 6608 CASTING SIMULATION

INTRODUCTION:

Simulation is the process of imitating a real phenomenon using a set of mathematical equations implemented in a computer program. Metal casting is subject to an almost infinite number of influences. Few major factors are Geometry Material Process S everal researchers, worked and develop relevant equations, and implement them in computer programs. INTRODUCTION

Casting simulation program :

AutoCAST CAP/WRAFTS CastCAE Castflow, Castherm JSCast MAGMASoft MAVIS Nova-Solid/Flow PAM-CAST/ ProCAST RAPID/CAST SIMTEC SOLIDCast Casting simulation program

INPUT:

3D CAD model of the casting specification of materials (cast metal, mould, core, feed aids) process parameters (type of mould, metal-mould heat transfer coefficient, pouring temperature etc.) INPUT

OUTPUT:

A nimated visualisation of mould filling, casting solidification, and further cooling to room temperature. Mould filling simulation helps in predicting the total filling time, mould erosion, incomplete filling, and air entrapment. Casting solidification simulation shows the temperatures, gradients and cooling rates inside the casting. OUTPUT

SOLIDCAST:

SOLIDCast can simulate moulding processes such as green sand, chemically-bonded sand, investment and permanent mould SOLIDCast contains both Gating and Riser Design Wizards™ tools that allows to rig new castings in just a few minutes With SOLIDCast the user can import 3D models from commercial CAD packages, or build own models without CAD Outputs are available with fully movable 3D models, X-ray images, high-resolution colour plots and Windows video files SOLIDCAST

APPLICATION:

Casting Troubleshooting Method optimization Part design improvement APPLICATION

BENEFITS:

BENEFITS Improved quality and/or yield Reduced shop-floor trials Value addition Knowledge management

BOTTLENECK:

BOTTLENECK Cost of implementation and operation Technical manpower and support Solid modeling

BEST PRACTICE:
