VOTING : VOTING Voting is the process of electing representatives to a body representing the people. Voting is an act of choice among a set of alternatives, by a free individuals and is at the heart of modern democracy. Voting is the most precious right of every citizen, and we have a moral obligation to ensure the integrity of our voting process. Community groups and religious organisations are perceived to be playing a major role in influencing the decision of the voters in the coming elections. The city has already witnessed the district-level conference of the Veerashaiva Mahasabha and the Vishwakarma Sangha, both of which have called upon the respective communities to vote for political parties that will protect their interests. Likewise, the State-level convention of the Madiwala community was also held in the city. The public function to mark the 60th birthday of Balagangadharnath Swamiji of Adi Chunchanagiri Math was described as a rally to support the Congress. Caste : Caste Elections in India are contested very much on the basic of casteism. The voters are asked to vote for there caste candidate and casteism is maintained by the elected leaders after the elections are over. Political parties sponsor only that candidate from a particular constituency whose caste is the most numerous in the area. Community : Community Community feelings had led the Telgue people to demand separate state of Andhra likewise hilly people in Uttar Pradesh were asking for Uttrakhand state. The candidates also make appeals in the name of community pointing out the injustices being suffered by there community and take pledge to ameliorate there condition. Class : Class The worker aspire that there leader should be elected to fight there cause in the legislature. In big industrial towns like Bombay, Ahmedabad and Kanpur a trade union leader wins elections on the basic of class consideration. Money : Money Crores of rupees are spent by the political parties in there bid to capture political power. Big industrialists and business magnates contribute a lot of money for election funds. Votes are purchased through payment in cash. As a majority of voters are poor people consisting of lower castes, they are easily swayed away by money. Charisma : Charisma The personality of the party leader also influences the choice of voters. Thus the Congress won several elections in the name of Nehru and Indira Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi campaigned for the Congress during the 1998 elections.
