DESCRIPTION:

DESCRIPTION Poor posture is a direct consequence of a modern lifestyle. Poor posture can add years to your appearance. You may have poor posture and not know it. Poor posture causes permanent, unnatural alignment of the spine.

THE CAUSES OF POOR POSTURE:

THE CAUSES OF POOR POSTURE Habit : Being hunched over a computer, leaning forward while standing Unless we remind ourselves to “ sit up straight ” , the “ bad ” posture becomes “ normal ” . Injury Injury or weakness in certain muscles can force you to slouch due to pain. Genetics

THE CAUSES OF POOR POSTURE:

THE CAUSES OF POOR POSTURE Stress: Exerting ourselves beyond our capacity can trigger incorrect posture. Example - moving furniture and appliances, lifting heavy boxes, picking up infants, toddlers, and children improperly. Shoes: Wearing comfortable shoes for prolonged standing, walking is essential. Improper shoes can lead to generalized back pain, hip/knee pain, and postural problems.

WHAT PHYSICAL THERAPY CAN DO:

WHAT PHYSICAL THERAPY CAN DO We will evaluate you to determine exactly what must be done to restore optimum posture and to relieve aches and pain, allowing you to function better and breathe more efficiently (plus, it looks better!) Our goal: to provide you pain relief to help you return to your normal lifestyle and encourage you to participate in an exercise program.

HOME REMEDIES:

HOME REMEDIES First, alleviate the acute pain before you begin to exercise! If you experience aches /pains due to poor posture, try to correct your posture 1 day at a time. Self awareness is key If your body has found an unnatural “ comfort zone ” , remind yourself that each day you sit up straight brings you one day closer to relief. At work, place a small reminder on your computer, desk, or workspace to keep you aware of your position Especially if you ’ ll be sitting for long periods of time.

HOME REMEDIES:

HOME REMEDIES If you are experiencing neck pain and headaches due to bad posture habits, try these simple tips: If you hold the phone under one ear for too long or carry a heavy bag on one shoulder for a long time, TAKE BREAKS to eliminate the pain and switch sides at regular intervals of 10-15 minutes. If you sit at a computer for a long time, get up and walk around frequently or, at least, change your head position. Keep your head and neck upright as much as possible by conducting regular, postural ‘ self checks ’ . If you have been injured in an accident or are suffering from an injury, avoid hurting yourself further.

HOME REMEDIES:

HOME REMEDIES Stretching exercises are important Poor posture is associated with progressive stiffness. Any tightness in muscles that are keeping you from straightening up your body could be causing you pain! These are the muscles that need to be stretched, thereby reducing your aches and pains. Low-impact aerobic conditioning Muscles in your body that fatigue too easily will regain their strength and endurance so you can sit up straighter, longer without getting tired, which will help with pain.

HOME REMEDIES:

HOME REMEDIES Strengthening exercises Muscles that are weaker will need to be strengthened to make moving easier which will help your joints aches and pains. Remember to pace yourself with any new exercises to avoid re-injury. Don ’ t get into a pattern where you begin your day with less pain, and do too much activity that you have a relapse of severe pain.
