Average, 200 young people participate. Started in a saltwater quarry, now in heated pool. Held at same time Garage Sale, so this is an “All Hands” service project too. Learn to Swim Learn to Swim Program Since 1959 : Learn to Swim Program Since 1959 Boy Scouts : We chartered and supported our Troop of Scouts since 1958. We are very proud of our young men, and we are proud to support them. A RECORD: Our Troop had 13 young men earn EAGLE SCOUT 2009-2010 Boy Scouts Boy Scout Troop #1058 Sponsorship & Support – Since 1958 : Boy Scout Troop #1058 Sponsorship & Support – Since 1958 Sight & Hearing Programs : Sight & Hearing Programs -Sight and Hearing Van- : The Coupeville Lions bring the Sight & Hearing Van/Truck to Coupeville yearly. Lions test our school children using basic eye and hearing examinations. Possible problems identified are further tested by professionals. Over 200 students are tested during the one day visit. This is one of the most rewarding, as well as important, service projects. -Sight and Hearing Van- Honored Students : Quarterly the Lions Club holds a special Pot Luck Dinner, to honor the male and female Students of the Quarter. Plaques are awarded. We ensure the students families are invited to honor them also. The students give a 10 minute talk about themselves and school activities. 2010 the Lions Club awarded $25,000 in scholarships to graduating Coupeville Seniors. The camp provides the “summer camp” experience to over 150 campers during the summer. Along with financial support, Lions Clubs members manage, staff, perform grounds and building maintenance throughout the year. -Special Needs Camp- Camp Horizon – Since 1985 : Camp Horizon – Since 1985 SERVICE ProjectsGeneral : Historic Preservation Roadside Litter Pickup Eye Glass Recycle Your idea: _________________ SERVICE ProjectsGeneral Historical Blockhouse & Barn Restoration : Historical Blockhouse & Barn Restoration HWY 20 Roadway Cleanup - 1984 : HWY 20 Roadway Cleanup - 1984 - SightFirst Program - : This program supports The Northwest Lions Foundation. The Foundation has grown into the premier vision and hearing support program in the country. White Cane Days are held annualy in May, Lions collect contributions at local merchants and do a major mailing - SightFirst Program - Eyeglass & Hearing Aid Recycling Since 1990 : Eyeglass & Hearing Aid Recycling Since 1990 Quarterly Blood Drive : Held quarterly at the Coupeville United Methodist Church. Involves Lions performing registration, “canteen duty”, and baking dozens of the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies in the World. Each pint of blood collected can save 8 lives!!! “normal good” drive = registered 92 donors and collected 75 units of blood. This will benefit up to 225 patients.
