Traditional Muscat Food is basically devised from the customary régime of the nomads who use elements that are easily available in Gulf countries like beef mutton lamb chicken seafood dates beans vegetables yogurt wheat rice pistachios and spices— a reflection of Islamic food preferences that adds a special flavor. In recent years the ever-increasing influence of food choices have resulted in numerous and well-represented restaurants and food courts in Muscat but many people still prefer eating at hotels. However eating at hotel is much more expensive than eating at outdoor local food-courts. Muscat hospitality and food has become quite eloquent and illustrates Arab traditions. Like other gulf countries Muscat too maintain many of the traditions and cultures of their past because of the country’s protracted and constant connection with nomads and travelers.
