In these units we will….. Identify common spelling errors and learn how to avoid them identify when and where to use capital letters learn the most common punctuation marks and when to use them learn more complex punctuation and its uses learn about different tenses produce writing to practice all of the above

In these units we will..... : 

In these units we will..... look at a variety of different types of writing and the messages they give think about the audiences writing is aimed at and why this is important learn the ‘rules’ that different writing styles have produce a portfolio of your own writing

Unit timetable : 

Unit timetable As these two units work so closely together the work you do in one will influence your work in the other. Timetables will be issued for each unit. Punctuation and grammar will be covered over the first 6 weeks and the skills learned during that time will help you to complete the second unit and produce a range of written materials.

Useful resources : 

Useful resources notebook for jotting down new words, phrases and ideas for writing folder and dividers for keeping work in order dictionary and thesaurus regularly read newspaper or magazine examples of different writing styles ie. leaflets through your door, instruction manuals, favourite book, etc.

Let’s get started…… : 

Let’s get started…… In any form of writing being able to spell correctly is vital. The quality of spelling reflects back on the author and no matter how ‘well written’ or well argued your piece is poor spelling will let it down. In English there are several words which because they sound alike can cause confusion – can you think of any? Which words cause you problems?

Task 2 : 

Task 2 Capital letters is our next topic – put yourselves into small groups and using the flash cards issued decide which words should have a capital letter and why and which ones should not.
