Personal Statement: Me, Myself, and I

Who Am I? : 

Who Am I? I am the first person in my family to be born in the U.S. and I will be the first person in my family to finish college. I was named after Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and my Mami, Rosa. My name is Jacqueline Rossi Blas and I was born in White Plains, NY on June 22, 1989.

My Heritage : 

My Heritage Chola soy y no me compadezcas… Soy 100% Peruana! This is where my grandparents originally came from, and they eventually all moved to the capital of Peru, Lima.

What I love about Peru! :

Mi Familia : 

Mi Familia Like most Latinos, I have more people in my family than I can count. Here are the people closest to my heart, and who have had the biggest impact on my life…

Mi Familia… : 

Mi Familia… My Mami came to the U.S. 24 years ago to and my Papi followed her 2 years later. My parents have always been strong supporters of my education and have always pushed me to be an independent woman.

Mi Familia… : 

Mi Familia… My brother Alex and I are 8 years apart. Alex and I always get along and love to make fun of one another. He is one of the most important people in my life.

Mi Familia… Mama Elsa and Papa Eugenio are my aunt and uncle. Mama Elsa is the matriarch of my family and anything she says, goes. They are also my godparents and have always been there for me.

Mi Familia… : 

Mi Familia… My cousins Michael and Jenny are probably the most influential people in my life. They have basically raised me since I was born, and have been like my brother and sister. Without them, I would not be where I am today.

What I like to do… : 

What I like to do… I have always considered music to be one of the driving forces behind me – “Music is love in search of words” Throughout my life I’ve been involved in several musical activities including Marching Band, Area All State Band, All-County Choir, Select Choir, Tri-M Music Honor Society, musical theatre, drum corps, et cetera.

Far Above Cayuga’s Waters… : 

Far Above Cayuga’s Waters… I spend the majority of my time at Cornell trying to balance my Peruvian identity with my Indigenous roots. I am the former Co-Chair of the Association of Peruvians at Cornell (APC) and the current Co-Chair of Native American Students At Cornell (NASAC) I also found a home my freshmen year in Akwe:kon (a-gway-go) the Native American Program House and now I am one of its Resident Advisors

But seriously…who am I? I like to think of myself as a strong, passionate, silly, peculiar, curious, fascinated with music and babies, young woman.

Let Me Elaborate. : 

Let Me Elaborate. This semester has shown me more than any other how strong I am. At my weakest and most unhappy moment in life, I realized that I still have my dreams to hold onto, if nothing else. I love music and babies. I truly feel that music is what thoughts sound like and that the music that I make and listen to are not simply vibrations in the air but my emotions coming to life. Also, I’ve been fascinated with a women’s ability to reproduce since before I can remember and my goal in life is to become an ob/gyn. I’ve been told that I am, and also consider myself to be, a very passionate person. When I decide upon something, I throw my whole self into it. I dedicate myself not only with my mind but with my heart.

So what I’m trying to say is… : 

So what I’m trying to say is… Overall, I think that I am a young, silly woman with a lot of interests and passion that drive me. Music is my backbone My goal is to become an Ob/Gyn to feed my never-ending curiosity of pregnancy and babies My passion will give me the strength and dedication I need to fulfill my goals
