Premium member Presentation Transcript Marina Park Plaza Condominium Hotel : Marina Park Plaza Condominium Hotel Bahias de Huatulco Mexico FONATUR The Force Behind Mexican Tourism : FONATUR The Force Behind Mexican Tourism Mexico’s national trust for the promotion of tourism was formed in 1971 developing major tourist resorts and encouraging foreign investment in its projects Fonatur’s destinations bring in over half of the foreign tourist dollars to Mexico Under President Fox it had a $6 billion budget FONATUR : FONATUR In 1967, Fonatur selected three areas in Mexico for tourism development Cancun Ixtapa Los Cabos Over the next 15 years the results with these three areas were impressive FONATUR : FONATUR Cancun - sports more than 200 hotels with over 50,000 rooms. Ixtapa – grew from only 491 hotel rooms to over 4,000 rooms Los Cabos - grew from 10 hotels with 500 rooms to 60 hotels with over 6000 rooms Fonatur - Bays of Huatulco : Fonatur - Bays of Huatulco For the first 15 years, Fonatur focused on these original three destinations. But then in the early 1980s it turned it’s attention to the “Bays of Huatulco” And dubbed it … “The tourism wonder of tomorrow”.
