PL: We say that today everybody becomes and author for example or that everybody because an editor or publisher. And I think that we should stress also that e verybody is becoming a specialist in library science. Because when you can thinkerize (?) some information, you do it for yourself to organize your memory but at the same time you organize the memory for others. Every time that you that create a link, every time that you put a tag, you are organizing the common memory. You exercise the role of the keeper of a library. So this is a very new thing and I think that the question of categorization is very important. You do it in a conscious way. HR: So it sounds like you are talking about something for which we don’t have a word yet, that’s kind of like a knowledge citizen . PL: That’s it, yes. A citizen of the knowledge society. http ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kCV4EEy2IE&t= 11m50sPowerPoint Presentation: http://sdst.libguides.com/ researchtoolsPowerPoint Presentation: http://sdst.libguides.com/content.php?pid=175173&sid=1576985PowerPoint Presentation: http://sdst.libguides.com/ databasesPowerPoint Presentation: http://palibraries.libguides.com/ youngadultlitPowerPoint Presentation: http://paper.li/tag/tlchatPowerPoint Presentation: http://paper.li/WorldMedCard/1306973026PowerPoint Presentation: http://www.scoop.it/t/all-things- caldecottPowerPoint Presentation: http://www.apple.com/ibooks-author /PowerPoint Presentation: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/ 96705 http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/ 96705PowerPoint Presentation: Keeping up with search 6Project Info Lit @ UW iSchool: Project Info Lit @ UW iSchool The relatively consistent pattern of information usage suggests that most students in our study favored a risk-averse and predictable information-seeking strategy . Who wrote it? 2. Why did they write it? 3. How does it help me answer my questions or make my case?PowerPoint Presentation: We can no longer be content to train students to understand the difference between peer- reviewed journals and popular magazines, to appreciate the value of books, newspapers and reference sources, and to understand how to evaluate garden variety Web sites. We're on the cusp of profound changes in the scholarly process. The evolving nature of publishing, scholarly conversation and peer review is rich fodder for our students. This makes the work of forward-thinking instruction librarians challenging, but not impossible. These librarians can, among other things: Make students aware of the emergence of social scholarship. Teach students about Authority 3.0 - or whatever you want to call it. Alert them to the expanding world of scholarly communication. In conjuction with this, abandon of the notion that there is a clear distinction between traditional peer-reviewed authority and authority derived from social scholarship. To put this another way, introduce the notion that there are emerging metrics of authority that can be derived from social scholarship. Use social tools (blogs, wikis, forums, social bookmarking, etc.) as part of the research process in their courses. Assign readings from authoritative blogs in the research areas students are asked to explore. Practice social scholarship, and show these activities as examples of what's on the horizon. Incorporate this new material in tutorials on their library's Web site . What type of language or vocabulary does the tweeter use?
