Effingham uses media streaming via United Streaming and the data projectors provide the best way to achieve this capability. eInstruction technology is mobile and does not require the presenter to be “at the board.” Students can use the pad and not “be at the board.”Slide 9: Of course eInstruction was more cost effective than other interactive technologies (SmartBoard or Promethean). First the county used the train the trainer model for instructing teachers how to use eInstruction technologies. Eventually the county hired Gregg Miles to provide individual, small group, and/or large group training sessions.Interview with Betsy Kessler: Interview with Betsy Kessler Second Grade TeacherLovin’ eInstruction- Tell us WHY?: Lovin ’ eInstruction - Tell us WHY? Mobility of devices Clickers for student responses that are automatically graded and reports are generated Ability to save assessments to be use from year to year Verbal mode makes rapid assessment quick and easy using any format6 Forces that Drive Emerging Technology: 6 Forces that Drive Emerging TechnologyEvolutionary Technology: Evolutionary Technology Building onto something old to create something newRhymes of History: Rhymes of History new technology makes an old activity able to be accomplished in a new way.Disruptive Technology: Disruptive Technology a new technology appears to come from nowhere to bring about a new way of thinking and communicating. BAM!!!Science Fiction: Science Fiction when science based research and fiction (movies or literature) aid in the creation of new technologies, not fantasy any more.Increasing Returns: Increasing Returns when a new technology that has been the underdog of a sector of technology emerges as the most desirable .Red Queen: Red Queen a type of technology is saturated with a large variety of devices that have the same function and the top two emerges as the most desirable because of their fierce competition. Why was the overhead projector the “in” technology in the 1980’s and 90’s: Why was the overhead projector the “in” technology in the 1980’s and 90’sWhy the overhead?: Why the overhead? Evolutionary Technology : Could enlarge any image or text that could be copied on transparency Ability to enlarge any object placed on the glass surface Large variety of manipulatives for multiple subjects Could be used with the lights on if necessary Instructor could face the students while writing on the transparenciesWhy is the overhead in the Closet?: Why is the overhead in the Closet? Power cords are a trip hazards Requires storage of manipulatives and transparencies Bulky; requires extra furniture (cart or table) Does not connect to computerNow eInstruction!!: Now eInstruction!! Evolutionary Technology : Enlarges text and images from any file or website accessible from the computer eInstruction Workspace has a data bank of content specific manipulatives that can be accessed when needed- no storage needed Could be used with the lights on if necessary Instructor can be anywhere in the room with mobile devices to annotate on the screenOverhead as a Rhyme: Overhead as a Rhyme Once upon a time to draw a line, Your back was what we saw. Then came along a light on a wall, And now the teacher can see us all! The overhead made instruction in front of the room easier and more effective.eInstruction Step Right Up!: eInstruction Step Right Up! Allows the teacher the instruct on the board without being in the front of the room. Allows the teacher to monitor the students more closely to check for understanding .An overhead… Disruptive??: An overhead… Disruptive?? The first technology that required electricity to project text or image on a large scale for a group. The blackboard was no longer used as the primary mode of enlarging text in the classroom. Transparencies could be pre-made for daily lessons and could to be changed as needed with ease. Copies could be made for absent students or for study guides. Why Oh Why Did My Overhead Leave??: Why Oh Why Did My Overhead Leave?? The overhead required the teacher to be front and center. eInstruction technologies and its mobile devices allow the teacher to be anywhere in the room for instruction. The overhead was bulky and required storage of overhead manipulatives and supplies. eInstruction technologies uses the computer for storage of all files and manipulatives. Mobile devices are easily stored.Do you believe in science?: Do you believe in science? I do not think that the overhead emerged from science fiction however eInstruction technologies did. eInstruction technologies and devices allow for annotations and responses to be transmitted via Bluetooth wavelengths.Increasing Returns NO WAY!: Increasing Returns NO WAY! The overhead projector and Interactive technologies burst onto the scene and were quickly adopted by those who could afford to purchase them. There were many companies who manufactured overhead projectors but they were all producing very similar products. eInstruction technologies built on the Smartboard and Promethean technologies providing portable devices for instruction.Slide 29: The blackboard and overhead projector did not have the red queen dynamic. One did not struggle to stay in use with the other. For most teachers the chalkboard was where the images were projected. With the invention of the whiteboard the usage of the two were strengthened even more. A screen was no longer needed. -VS-Overhead Pro.: Overhead Pro. -VS- eInstructionRed Queen : Red Queen NOTSlide 32: The demise of the overhead came about because of its limited applications and its bulky nature. Storage of all the manipulatives and supplies was also an issue. eInstruction provides almost endless applications due to its compatibility with computers and online tools and sites. It houses its manipulatives internally in software and is accessed with small mobile devices.Riddle me this – Riddle me that--- What comes next-- Is not exact!!!: Riddle me this – Riddle me that--- What comes next-- Is not exact!!!Third Generation Interactive Technologies: Third Generation Interactive Technologies The next generation of interactive technologies is likely to be 3D or holographic projection applications. This will make the flat experiences of today, more exciting! Students could have personal holographic pads with manipulative that can be accessed for different content areas.Third Generation Interactive Technologies: Third Generation Interactive Technologies 3D animation has been available for movie entertainment for years. This technology is now available for home use. Educational use of 3D technologies will likely follow within the next 5-10 years. The most technologically advanced and cutting edge facilities will pioneer the way documenting research to substantiate 3D technology use in the classroom.Support Documentation: Support DocumentationReferences:: References: About einstruction . Why did the county choose Interwrite over other 21 st Century equipment such as Smart Board or Promethean? Did the teachers in the county take to using the 21 st Century equipment immediately or did it take a few teachers at each school to pilot it before it began to become something the masses wanted to have in the classroom? What do you believe the LCD projectors and Interwrite software took the place of and why?
