Blackboards were originally made of smooth, thin sheets of black or dark grey slate stone. Sometimes they are green (especially early elementary) or brown (especially at universities) and thus sometimes called a green board or brown board instead. Slide 5: White board A whiteboard (also known as a dry-erase,dry-wipe board or a pen-board) is a name for any glossy surface, most commonly coloured white, where non-permanent markings can be made. Whiteboards operate analogously to chalkboards in that they allow markings to temporarily adhere to the surface of the board. The popularity of whiteboards increased rapidly in the mid-1990s and they have become a fixture in many offices, meeting rooms, school classrooms, and other work environments Slide 6: Smart Board SMART Board interactive whiteboard is a product of SMART Technologies. It is a large, touch-controlled screen that works with a projector and a computer. The projector throws the computer’s desktop image onto the interactive whiteboard, which acts as both a monitor and an input device. Users can write on the interactive whiteboard in digital ink or use a finger to control computer applications by pointing, clicking and dragging, just as with a desktop mouse. Buttons launch a popup keyboard and a right-mouse-click menu for more input options. The SMART Board interactive whiteboard is usually mounted on a wall or floor stand. It can be used in face-to-face or virtual settings. Slide 7: Realia In education, realia include objects used by educators to help students to understand better other cultures and real life situations. A teacher of a foreign language often employs realia to strengthen students' associations between words for everyday objects and the objects themselves. In many cases these objects are part of an instructional kit which includes a manual and is thus considered as being part of a documentary whole by librarians. In foreign language instruction, the term realia has a broader meaning, which includes photos of objects from a country where the target language is spoken. Slide 8: Flashcard or flash card is a card that is used as a learning aid. One writes a question on a card and an answer overleaf. Flashcards can bear vocabulary, historical dates, formulas or any subject matter that can be learned via a question and answer format. Flashcards are widely used as a learning drill to aide memorization by way of spaced repetition. Slide 9: Features: Here are some features of an alphabet book. An alphabet book usually contains the following for each letter: one or more keywords an illustration of each keyword, and the letter(s) in small and capital letters. Definition: An alphabet book is a collection of pages that lists and illustrates the entire alphabet. Slide 10: Definition An alphabet chart is a single page that lists the entire alphabet, or selected parts of the alphabet. Features The size of an alphabet chart can range from a wall chart large enough to be seen by a group to a small leaflet. An alphabet chart usually contains the following for each letter: a keyword using the letter an illustration of the keyword, and the letter in small and capital letters. Slide 11: Definition: A calendar is a page or a series of pages that shows the dates, days, and months of one year. Features: A calendar usually contains numbers, text, and illustrations. Slide 12: A chart is a group of related facts presented in the form of a diagram, table, graph, or other visually organized model. Slide 13: An easy reader is a short book with a small amount of text and large illustrations. The illustrations are designed to give clues to what the text says. Slide 14: Definition: A flip chart is a collection of large pages which are bound together at the top. The pages are “flipped” or brought up and to the back as they are used. Features: A flip chart is bound together at the top in such a way that the pages can be easily turned and lie flat. Slide 15: Definition Sentence building cards are a teaching aid. They allow learners to build sentences by matching individual words to words in a sentence that has already been written. Features Each set of sentence building cards consists of a large sentence card with pictures and sentences, and several small word cards. The large sentence card has several illustrations drawn in boxes down the left side of the card. Each illustration has a sentence written in a box beside it. The illustrations serve as clues to the sentences. Slide 16: Definition A sentence building grid is a teaching aid that allows learners to construct sentences by choosing parts of sentences and putting them together to form whole logical sentences. Description A sentence grid is a chart arranged in columns. Each column contains words that are a specific part of a sentence, such as articles subjects objects, or verbs. Slide 17: Definition: A syllable wheel is a teaching aid that allows a learner to substitute letters in a designated position in a syllable. The learner rotates an inner wheel to line up letters printed on it with letters printed on an outer wheel. Slide 18: Definition A word slide is a teaching aid that allows a learner to substitute letters in a designated position in a syllable or word. Features A word slide consists of two pieces of paper. One has part of a word printed on it lengthwise. The other has letters or syllables that could complete the word printed on it from top to bottom. The second piece of paper slides through slits cut in the first piece. The letters or syllables printed on it complete words which change as you slide the paper from one position to another. Slide 19: Tape recorder, tape deck, reel-to-reel tape deck, cassette deck or tape machine is an audio storage device that records and plays back sound using magnetic tape, either wound on a reel or in a cassette, for storage. It records a fluctuating signal by moving the tape across a tape head that polarizes the magnetic domains in the tape in proportion to the audio signal. Slide 20: Overhead projector typically consists of a large box containing a very bright lamp and a fan to cool it off, on top of which is a large fresnel lens that collimates the light. Above the box, typically on a long arm, is a mirror and lens that focusses and redirects the light forward instead of up. You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
