Connected to Nambour, Coolum beaches and Maroochydore Plaza by a short drive of only 20 minutes, Mamre is a world away from the bustle of busy lives. Connected to the flow of nature by the creek that respectfully runs through the property, Mamre is the explorer’s camping adventure with the luxury of a beautiful home. Connected to three living quarters by timber boardwalks, Mamre is where you can be in your own space and still belong!! Slide 3: Only five minutes from the Bruce Highway, up a country dirt road, past paddocks of grass often checkered with neatly packaged bales of hay; past cane country and cattle lolling along fence lines, past a handful of friendly neighbours - a right turn will take you down into a private 5-acre valley, known affectionately to its’ residents as ‘Mamre’. Tree-lined hills form a sheltered nest in which the home at Mamre safely rests. This spot provides many different aspects from which to enjoy nature’s display that flows generously all around. Central to life at Mamre is a spring -fed dam that ensures an abundance of water not only for home use and agriculture, but also for the many wildlife visitors who frequent the watering spot. An island in the middle of the dam provides a natural nesting shelter for ducks and other birds. Viewed from the different areas throughout the home, the still, quiet waters of the dam evoke a sense of peace. Mamre is a palette for the unhindered expression of nature. It is a place where the trees on the hill tops dance and clap like spectators doing a crowd wave at a cricket match. It is a place where the waters from the mountains and forest announce their arrival with vitality as they gush and jump over levels of bedrock while passing around the property on their way to the Maroochy River just a few kilometres north. Slide 6: The rich timber front doors open to reveal a generous bridge that invites you into an open living room. Completely sheltered and yet without any external doors, this room provides a seamless interaction with the outdoors. It is a favourite place to sit and have the early morning ‘cuppa’ while watching the stirring of life outside on the dam. Continuing the surrounding natural water theme of the property, a garden feature creek bed has been created at the front entrance of the house. Lined with lush lomandra and native ginger, it runs under the deck and stretches the entire length of the front of the house. There is an option to switch on the water feature and enjoy the gently running water as it trickles over smooth river stones. Slide 9: Where is this photo – inert no. 7 – view looking out from sitting area back along deck towards front entrance Slide 10: Insert photo with water running Slide 11: Raking timber ceilings and high quality Italian tiles enhance the cool atmosphere of the front entrance room. Upon entering the home, the kitchen and dining room is to the right and opens to the striking view of the creek. The kitchen is designed to take full advantage of these views, with windows positioned to maximise appreciation of nature’s provision. The bi-fold doors open to enable those sitting at the dining table to enjoy the natural rock pool and bedrock gully that is only ten metres from the house and is accessible by stairs leading down the creek bank. When the creek is running after considerable rain, the view over dinner is priceless. The sound of rushing water also adds to the raw and natural charm of this retreat. Part of the magic of this creek feature is the intimacy created by such close proximity. One of the rewards is the unique, daily display of dappled light and shade that streams through the bush and spotlights the pure essence of this feature. The kitchen floor is beautifully finished wide blackbutt timber and the natural coloured benches and plentiful cupboard space create a working area that is extremely functional. Raking ceilings again add to the sense of light and space. Slide 14: Where is this slide – insert no. 10 – looking out across dining table to creek. Slide 17: Not only does the water flow all around Mamre, but the driveway also wraps around the home – giving access to the different sections of the home and also the different sections of the property. At the rear of the home is the ideal teenager’s retreat. Complete with its’ own entry, this module contains two bedrooms, a sitting room and a bathroom. An elevated deck and seating area overlooks the creek and also a basketball pad . Many a group of teenagers have gathered here to shoot hoops. There is space to play the drums as loud as you like without bothering the neighbours and without bothering the rest of the family either!! There is space for friends to bunk down for that all night movie session. There is also space to talk outdoors freely and safely into the early morning without bothering anybody. Teenagers can feel connected to the rest of the home and still enjoy their own sense of space and unique music tastes!!! A wide deck connects this module to the central part of the home and kitchen. Here, overlooking the creek, sheltered by majestic trees, and open to the gorgeous skies, is an outdoor entertaining area that can easily cater for the small intimate gathering or a large celebration! From this angle, a 1-bedroom unit is also visible. This neat little cottage enjoys creek front views from both the sitting area and the bedroom. A deck enables the occupants to enjoy their own outdoor living space while virtually touching the Backhousia Citriodora and the Satinash that border the creek banks. While connected to the main house by timber decks and walkways, this area enjoys it’s own automatic garage parking space and it’s own front entrance. Slide 21: Wooden bi fold doors open off both sides of the main front entrance, creating an efficient breezeway throughout the front of the house. Opening from the front entrance room, on the opposite side of the kitchen is a large office and a sitting room complete with a fireplace and reverse cycle air conditioning. You will not run out of work space in this office that has a wrap around desk occupying two walls. With views overlooking the water feature and looking out beyond to the dam, there is plenty of room for the whole family to work independently or alternatively, there is just heaps of space to spread out your great plans and your piles of filing!! The sitting room is designed for just that!!! Sitting …. And enjoying the picturesque views of the changing hues of the tree-lined hills that surround the property, the still waters of the dam and the expansive lawn area surrounded by landscaped gardens that would suit any backyard cricket or footy match or your own private picnic. A Kent Evolution 8 freestanding wood heater and reverse cycle air conditioning provide highly effective temperature control and further complement the comfort of this sacred space!! Slide 24: Insert this photo – no. 19 – still standing on tiles and looking into the living area. Slide 28: Insert no. 23 – front of house from dam perspective to show the position of the sitting room and the view that is available from this spot. Slide 29: Opening from the sitting room is the main bedroom with views overlooking the hills, the gardens and the dam. This room has a walk through robe and an ensuite and while being very private from the rest of the home, a small window strategically positioned still enables the sound of the running creek to be heard from inside. Slide 34: Insert photo no. 26 – overall shot. Slide 35: The landscape at Mamre is unique. Surrounded by 30,000 acres of State Forest, the air is pure and clean. The same purity is carried through the property in the stream that flows from the mountain tops. Two fenced paddocks make Mamre an ideal spot for keeping horses or a cow or goat to support a permaculture lifestyle. Both paddocks are around 1 acre and are suited to a variety of interests. A flat lawn area surrounded by landscaped gardens is close to the house. A wide ribbon of rainforest dissects the property and lines the creekbed and gully that supplies the property with an abundance of pure quality water. The Land Slide 36: The front paddock to the left of the driveway into Mamre boasts stunning views across to Mt Ninderry. It is around 1 acre, and fenced to allow stock to drink from one portion of the dam. The slope is well suited to developing a series of swales to take full advantage of the runoff from the front driveway. Beekeeping is well established in one corner of this paddock and the bees are very happy with a good supply of water, clear flight paths and an abundance of nearby flora from the forest. Bordering the dam is an ideal spot for the rambling pumpkin patch. The remaining paddock could also be developed for seasonal vegetables or herbs. There is an entrance giving good vehicle access from the front driveway. The dam pump has sufficient capacity to easily irrigate this paddock. Slide 42: The second paddock is accessed from the back of the property across the creekbed. It is also around 1 acre, fully stock-fenced and enjoys a northerly aspect. A tank is already in place on this side of the creek and the water is pumped either from the dam or collected from the roof of the shed. At the highest point of this paddock, there are extensive country views that could e further appreciated with the development of a studio type building. The hill slopes back toward the gully lining the creek and once again, a series of swales could easily enhance any agricultural venture. Infrastructure is already in place for a plant nursery style business. This includes a shade house, seed raising beds and a large 3 bay shed. Composting bins are also in place to efficiently recycle the cuttings and wastes from the property. A cool, sheltered position beside the shed is proving an ideal home for the compost worms who are happily producing worm castings for the gardens at Mamre. A ‘chook house’ area has been designated to provide a free range lifestyle and also to ensure that all runoff will further enrich the soil at the lower parts of the slope. Slide 47: The Surrounds Slide 48: The rainforest runs like a filter system through the property – cleansing the creek, and revitalising the land. Massive trees, suggesting hundreds of years of growth stand as proud sentinels on the slopes of the creek gully. When the creek is running, there are many spots to sit and enjoy the spectacle. One of them is from a wooden bench at the edge of the landscaped lawn surrounding the house. The Land Slide 52: A lawned area bordering the dam and the creek is to the side of the house. This is approx 500 square metres and is surrounded by landscaped gardens. This section of the garden is maintained by an underground sprinkling system that pumps directly from the dam, ensuring the grounds are always looking fresh and vital throughout the year. The gardens are low maintenance – mostly natives and a single mulch dressing once a year keeps them in great shape! The lawn continues with a smooth sweep around the house – encircling the back teenager’s section and the kitchen outlook. It adds to the sense of connectedness of the entire property. Slide 54: There is a 5 bay parking spot for visitors at the front of the property and a turning circle around the house enables ease of manoeuverability for larger vehicles. Slide 55: At Mamre, you can be in your own space and still belong!! Just five minutes walk up the road is the entrance to the Parklands Conservation Park – which has 15 kilometres of multi-use trails that meander through open eucalypt forest and rainforest gullies. Creeks, rockpools and cascades flow after heavy rainfall. Just five minutes drive down the road and around a couple of corners is a boat ramp from which you can launch your boat or your kayak and enjoy hours of pleasure on the water, cruising right down to the mouth of the Maroochy River. Slide 56: Conservation park photo Slide 57: River launch photo Slide 58: Hope you enjoyed The Mamre Walk.
